    If you've been on Twitter today, you may have noticed the hashtag #GreatNorthExpo2018, external, and it's all down to a push to shout about the best things about Bradford!

    The city is one of four that could be home to Great Exhibition of the North in 2018, Sheffield, Blackpool and Newcastle are up for it too.

    Every Friday this month, the Department for Culture, Media & Sport, external has been showcasing each other the four candidates and today is Bradford's turn.

  8. Watch: School reopens nine months after floodspublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 16 September 2016

    A West Yorkshire school which was rendered unusable in the Boxing Day floods has celebrated its re-opening today. 

    Pupils at Burnley Road Academy in Mytholmroyd had to be split up and taught on different sites while refurbishments took place. 

    Now they're back under one roof. Here's the opening ceremony...

  10. Travel update: One lane closed M62 J22 eastboundpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 16 September 2016

    We've got some slow traffic on the M62 eastbound at J22, (A672 Rishworth Moor), because of a broken down vehicle.  

    There aren't massively long queues but as you can see you will get a delay if you're heading back into West Yorkshire. Still, at least you're not in Manchester anymore...

    A man has been robbed as he sat in his car at temporary traffic lights in Pontefract.

    It happened on Tuesday on Hardwick Road at 10:40. Two men riding a motorbike approached his car and grabbed him through the driver's window.   

    The pillion passenger opened his rear passenger door and stole his laptop. The victim was then assaulted when he tried to grab his bag. He suffered minor injuries. 

    The suspects fled the scene towards East Hardwick.

  12. Tickets on sale for Calendar Girls in West Endpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 16 September 2016

    Tickets went on sale today for the Calendar Girls musical in the West End.

    It's written by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth and opens in January at the Phoenix Theatre - having already played to packed houses in Leeds

    The show tells the story of members of the Rylstone WI in the Yorkshire Dales - who hit the headlines around the world when their nude calendar became a global sensation.  

  13. That's a big one! Harrogate's Autumn Flower show beginspublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 16 September 2016

    The Harrogate Autumn Flower Show gets under way today with exhibitors from across West Yorkshire taking part.

    The three-day event at the Great Yorkshire Showground is billed as the UK's premier autumn flower show. 

    For the first time a new plant pavilion will house all of the show's plant displays under one roof including the legendary giant vegetables competition.  

  14. Travel update: M62 J30 westbound lane closedpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 16 September 2016

    We've got one lane closed on the M62 westbound between J30 (A642 Rothwell) and J29 (M1 Lofthouse), because of a broken-down vehicle.  

    Traffic seems to be coping fine at the moment.

  15. Changes at Pinderfields and Dewsbury hospitals start this weekendpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 16 September 2016

    Changes to hospital services affecting pregnant women, children and people needing emergency surgery are due to be introduced at hospitals in Wakefield and Dewsbury this weekend, external.

    All serious cases will be sent to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, while Dewsbury Hospital will only deal with planned care. 

    Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust says the changes will "ensure people have access to the care they need when they need it, delivered by the most appropriate health professionals".

    Unfortunately, it would appear these changes will go ahead, despite concerns of tens of thousands of people who have signed a petition. But clearly the trust have decided to pursue this agenda. I will be watching very closely indeed.

  16. Rio Paralympics 2016: Who to watch todaypublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 16 September 2016

    There's some great action to watch out for in the Paralympics today from a West Yorkshire point of view...

    This afternoon, two Wakefield women, Leah Evans and Sophie Carrigill (pictured), will be going for bronze in the Wheelchair Basketball at 15:45.

    Halifax's Hannah Cockroft will be hoping to make it an incredible three Paralympic gold medals tonight as she goes in the Women's 800m T34 final. That'll be at 22:45.

  18. West Yorkshire's weather: Rain finally easing, brighter laterpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 16 September 2016

    Still some heavy spells of rain across eastern parts this afternoon.

    However, the rain will ease from the west with brighter skies developing.

    The wind will pick up, especially in the east. Feeling fresher with highs of about 18C (64F).
