  2. Wolseley jobs to gopublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

    Wolseley - the plumbing and heating equipment giant whose brands include Plumb Center - plans to close 80 UK branches and a distribution centre with the loss of 800 jobs, it has announced, external. It's not clear if this will affect branches in West Yorkshire.

    For the year to 31 July the FTSE 100 company's pre-tax profits soared from £219m to £727m following good growth in Ferguson, its main US business.

    Wolseley may not be a household name, but it is worth almost £11bn - twice as much as Sainsburys, for example - and its shares are up 16% this year.

  4. Watch: Olympic and Paralympic Rio stars to parade around Leedspublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

    Tomorrow some of Yorkshire's Olympic and Paralympic heroes will take an open-top bus tour of Leeds. 

    Paralympic wheelchair racer Hannah Cockroft and Olympic triathletes Alistair and Jonny Brownlee will be among the medallists taking part.

    The parade will start at The Headrow, outside Leeds Art Gallery, and then go on to Park Row before heading to City Square, Boar Lane and Briggate. It'll start at 17:45.

    Elland Bridge, which was badly damaged in the Boxing Day floods, will have its final stage of work get underway today.

    A huge piece of archway will be lifted into place this morning.The council says it should re-open before 2017. 

  7. Teenager dies following crash in Bradfordpublished at 10:25 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

    A teenager has died after a car crash in Bradford in the early hours of this morning.

    The 17-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene when the car he was travelling in, driven by an 18-year-old man, crashed at around 00:15 travelling along the Shipley Airedale Road.  

    Police say that the silver Seat Leon they were in left the road and hit a barrier, close to the junction with Leeds Road. 

    The driver of the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

    Should takeaways be banned from opening near schools? It's an idea that Leeds City Council will be discussing today.

    1 in 3 children in the city are classed as being overweight or obese and this idea has already been tried out in London and the North East, where Kebab and Pizza shops aren't allowed to open within 400 metres of a school. 

    There are already more than 850 takeaways in Leeds - the council deals with around 15 applications for new ones every year.

    It's been a while in the making, but the final stage of work to re-open a West Yorkshire bridge badly damaged by floods starts later today.

    Ten tonne sections of Elland Bridge's arch will be lifted in by crane later this morning. 

    The former grade two listed bridge was destroyed at Christmas - but the council say it's on track to be reopened before the end of the year.

    More people in West Yorkshire are dying from taking drugs than in car crashes, according to figures seen by the BBC. 

    Between 2013 and 2015, around 300 from drug misuse and 161 were killed on our roads. 

    Latest figures show drug deaths across Yorkshire have increased by 52%.

    Great news, we have Britain's slowest motorway, a fact you may have already been aware of! 

    The M606 has an average speed of 24.6 mph. Surprisingly the M62 is quicker at 39.7 mph.

    The stats have come from a vehicle tracking company which has used software to measure the speed cars actually get up to. 

    Ram Tracking says the average speed on the M1 is 44 mph.

    Humberside Police are asking the public to help locate a mother and her two-year-old son from Bridlington who are missing.

    Megan Rescorla picked up her son Reuben Westmoreland from the care of his father in Bridlington at 09:45  on Saturday 24 September.  An agreement was put in place to return Reuben to his father by lunchtime but this did not happen.

    Humberside Police believe they may be in the company of Megan's current partner Luke Harrison (pictured).

    Police and Reuben's family members are now keen to locate him as soon as possible.

    It's thought that Megan and Mr Harrison may have taken Reuben to the Bradford area where Luke is known to have contacts.

  16. Samia Shahid death: Father and first husband remanded until Octoberpublished at 08:10 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

    The father and first husband of Samia Shahid from Bradford, who was allegedly murdered in a so-called honour killing in Pakistan, have been remanded in custody until 7 October.

    At a brief hearing in the city of Jhelum, the two men were presented with the police evidence against them. 

    Ms Shahid's relatives had initially claimed she died of a heart attack, but her husband, Syed Mukhtar Kazim, claims she was the victim of a so-called honour killing. A post-mortem examination has since confirmed she died as a result of being strangled, police say.

    Their lawyers will have the opportunity to challenge the police case on the 7th, when a decision will be taken by the court on whether or not to charge the men.
