The egg trail will run for two weeks ahead of Leeds Jurassic Trail 2, which takes place between 17 July and 5 September.

Visitors will be able to download an app for their phones and when they scan an egg at one of the locations it will hatch on their screen.

Each digital dinosaur that hatches from an egg will then be recreated as a life-size animatronic creature as part of the main event later in the summer.

Martin Dickson, head of marketing for Leeds BID, said: “This is the first major event we’ve hosted in the city centre since lockdown.

"It’s been genuinely exciting to see so many families already making that trip back to the city centre to do this together safely – and for free."

The wooden, twin-track Grand National ride, built in 1935, broke down at midday on Tuesday.

Staff at the Blackpool Pleasure Beach attraction had to climb up the ride, which stands 62ft (19m) high, to escort nervous thrill-seekers back to the ground.

At about the same time, another rollercoaster at the same amusement park, the giant Big One, also suffered a temporary stoppage, but riders were able to remain seated and the ride continued five minutes later.

Steve Ely, from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, on the Grand National ride with his two children, tweeted a photo of the ride stuck at the top of an incline on the roller-coaster.

An eyewitness waiting to get on the ride said his children were "devastated" as the ride was stopped while the problem was dealt with.

A spokesman for Blackpool Pleasure Beach said: "At 11:55 on Tuesday 1 June a stoppage occurred on the lift hill of the Grand National.

"All riders were safely escorted down the lift hill, and the ride was checked and re-opened just before 13:00.

"Shortly afterwards there was a very brief stoppage on the Big One lift hill, at 50ft, riders remained seated and the ride continued after five minutes."

In April riders on the Big One had to be escorted down after the amusement attraction broke down.

The ride reopened later that day.

A man has uncovered a 23-year-old alarm clock which still contains a final recording from his late mother.

Ed Morrish, 41, from Leeds but now living in Hampshire, re-discovered the clock when digging through his garage.

The audio and comedy producer tweeted: "When I went to university in 1998, my mother gave me an alarm clock where you could record your own alarm, so I told her to record it.

"I've just found it, and it still works. She died in 2006, and this is the only recording of her voice that I have."

In the recording, his mum Christine Morrish is heard shouting: "Get up Edward", and it is the first time Mr Morrish's two children, aged nine and 11, have been able to hear their late grandmother's voice.

Plans have been submitted for signs for a Dunkin Donuts and a Chopstix Noodle Bar at the former Pizza Hut on Penistone Road (pictured above).

Chopstix said it would open in summer and would be the city’s second branch after one opened at Berkeley Precinct on Ecclesall Road recently.

There are no further details about Dunkin Donuts but it already has venues at Berkeley Precinct, Valley Centertainment and Devonshire Street.

The Pizza Hut building, which closed last November, was recently advertised to let for £60,000 per year.

The famous chain, which launched in 1973, announced last September that its Penistone Road and High Street branches would close for good along with 27 others nationwide. T

Penistone Road already has a McDonalds and KFC and councillors have also given permission for an Aldi and a Costa Coffee drive-thru and takeaway to open.

Volunteers will be given a third shot of one of the seven vaccines ordered by the UK in order to gather data on side-effects and immune responses

The findings will help vaccine advisers decide if re-vaccinating some people in the autumn is necessary.

The Cov-Boost, will recruit 3,000 people of all ages who had their first dose in December or January, to test if this is worthwhile.

The research is being led by University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford is one of 18 locations where research is being carried out.

Consultant respiratory physician Prof Dinesh Saralaya will be leading the booster trial in Bradford.

He said: "Participants will be given a different vaccine to the one they have been given already, and by mixing them in this way, we will find out which combinations are the most effective to give us continued protection against this deadly virus.

"As we know, vaccines are the only way of out this pandemic and research is vital in the hope of us getting back to normal.”

Officers from South Yorkshire Police were called by a concerned member of the public to reports of the small pet being left on the back seat at Lakeside.

Although the window was left slightly open, police said it wasn't enough "to provide proper ventilation".

The gap was big enough for officers to reach in and open the door of the Land Rover, avoiding a broken window, Doncaster Central Neighbourhood Policing Team said.

The dog was checked over and deemed OK, but the driver and pet owner has been reported to the RSPCA who "will follow up the incident", officers added.

Emma Tuck, 21, has not been able to eat a full meal in more than three-and-a-half years.

The Doncaster woman has had a suspected form of gastroparesis, which means her stomach cannot process food and makes her vomit when she tries to eat, since she was 18.

Doctors believe a gastric pacemaker could help her get her life back.

Emma and her family are now hoping to raise £30,000 to fund the treatment which is currently not available on the NHS.
