    Nearly half the care homes in two parts of West Yorkshire aren't good enough, according to figures from the health watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

    More than 40% of nursing and residential homes in Bradford and Calderdale have been rated as "inadequate" or "requiring improvement" in the CQC's latest inspections.

    Last week more than half of all nursing homes in Leeds were graded as "poor".

  6. Traffic and travel: Delays and cancellations on East Coast Main Line published at 08:15 British Summer Time 11 April 2017

    You may remember we reported yesterday that the overhead electric wires had been damaged on the East Coast Main Line near Retford, on the line towards Doncaster.

    It seems the problems on the route will continue today, external , with Network Rail saying that though engineers have "worked hard overnight" to get the line open, trains are still having to run at a reduced speed over a five-mile stretch.

    Full repairs will be completed overnight tonight, says Network Rail, meanwhile trains between Peterborough and Doncaster are likely to be delayed by about 20 minutes.

    The company's also warning that in addition some trains may be amended or cancelled - as can be seen in these latest tweets from Virgin Trains East Coast:

  7. 'Complete devastation': Haxby gas explosion inquest continues published at 08:12 British Summer Time 11 April 2017

    An inquest is due to conclude today into a gas explosion which killed a York man.

    Paul Wilmott, 63, died in Haxby in  February last year.

    The coroner's already heard that the first paramedic who arrived found a scene of "complete devastation", and thought that Mr Wilmott's house had been flattened by a plane crash. 

    The blast is thought to have been caused by a corroded copper pipe , dating back to the 1970s. 

    Yorkshire Ambulance Service paramedic Andrew Hewitson told the jury: "My first thought was it was a possible plane crash, the way the house had caved in.

    "The street was covered with debris, cars were covered with concrete, windows looked to be blown in, complete devastation."

    A decision is due to be made today on whether to renew the sexual entertainment licence for a club in Sheffield .

    There've been 97 objections to the renewal of the licence for the Spearmint Rhino club on Brown Street.

    There have also been representations from 17 supporters. 

    Sheffield City Council licensing Committee will meet at 10:00 this morning to discuss the application.

    More than 90 social care workers quit their job every day in Yorkshire, the BBC has found.

    Of those, about 60% leave the social care sector entirely - and there are now more than 6,000 vacant posts. 

    Providers say staff shortages will mean lower standards of care .
