  3. Watch: Rain brings North Yorkshire river back to lifepublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

Heavy rain at the weekend has brought a North Yorkshire river back to life.

Long Gill, near Settle, has spent much of the summer dry.

That was until downpours on Saturday slowly filled it back up again.

Michelle Whitaker, who filmed the dry river bed, said she waited an hour in the rain to see the water levels slowly rise - adding it was "worth it".

The Very Revd Peter Bradley announced he was resigning after the service on Sunday, the 17th anniversary of his taking up the post.

He said although he resigned with "great regret" and it was a "great privilege" to have served as Dean, his last day will be New Year's Eve.

In July, the cathedral choir was disbanded amid much controversy because it was "not diverse enough", and in May, the cathedral's homeless project was damaged by fire. A woman has since been charged with arson.

Mr Bradley said: "You may be aware of the tremendous pressure I have been under over recent weeks which has seriously affected my health."After prayerful reflection and conversations with people who know me well, including the Bishop, I have decided that the time has come for me to move on."

The cathedral said Mr Bradley would continue to be a priest within the wider church and in time would apply for another job, but not at Sheffield Cathedral.

The company confirmed it would suspend its operations from Thursday at its cinemas, including those in Leeds, Bradford, Castleford, Wakefield, Sheffield, Hull and York.

The chain has been affected by delays to the release of big budget films - including the latest Bond movie - because of the coronavirus pandemic.

"We did everything in our power to support safe and sustainable reopenings in all of our markets," said chief executive Mooky Greidinger.

The company "cannot underscore enough how difficult this decision was" to close the sites, he added.

The move will affect around 5,500 UK jobs and comes after the release of the latest James Bond film was delayed again.
