    A man has been jailed for three years for possessing images of child sex abuse and offences involving animals.

    The judge at Bradford Crown Court said Rehan Baig's actions would make a right-thinking person "sick to their stomach".

    His wife, Haleema Baig, was given a six-month suspended sentence for filming her husband.

    The offences were discovered when officers searched the family home on Shepherd Street, Bradford, last July.

    Police seized computer equipment with 49 images of children, including 11 in the most serious category. The children were as young as six.

    Baig's wife admitted three counts of aiding and abetting offences involving an animal.

    Baig admitted three counts of making indecent images of children, three counts of possessing extreme pornography, three offences involving an animal, and two counts of possession of controlled drugs.

    Sentencing the couple, Judge Richard Mansell QC said Baig's offending was "depraved, perverted and despicable".

    People are being asked to only use Doncaster Royal Infirmary's Accident and Emergency department in a "genuine emergency" as it is "really busy" at the moment.

    The hospital trust said coronavirus cases continue to rise, with 140 people in hospital needing treatment at both Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital.

    It issued the plea this morning asking people people to only use the hospital's urgent care services if they need "genuine emergency care".

    It added: “The Same Day Health Centre, your local practice, pharmacies and NHS 111 can all provide care for non-emergency illnesses and injuries.

    "This will leave our Emergency Department teams free to concentrate on those patients in the most urgent need.

    “Please only come to our hospital if it’s a genuine emergency or if you have a scheduled appointment. Thank you very much for your support.”

    Hospitals in some parts of the East Midlands are reporting a sharp rise in Covid-19 patients.

    The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS trust said, external it has seen a "significant" increase in admissions and in response is asking visitors not to attend except in specific circumstances.

    Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS trust said, external it has seen "one of" its highest rises in the past 24 hours.

    The trust, which is caring for 131 people including nine at Bassetlaw Hospital, warned patients this "means everything takes a little longer and makes everything just that bit harder" and urged them to follow guidance.

    Meanwhile, the medical director of Nottingham's two main hospitals said the number of inpatients is increasing, although demand on critical care is less than in April this year.

    Police searching for a wanted man in York are urging the public to report any sightings of him.

    Stephen Paxton, 41, is wanted as part of an investigation into an assault in which two people, a vulnerable man and another person who intervened, were punched and kicked.

    The attack happened on Union Terrace on Friday 11 September.

    A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "Paxton has no fixed address but has connections in York and is believed to be in the area."

    Anyone who has information about his whereabouts is being urged to contact police.

    The medical director of the Nightingale Hospital in Harrogate says people should be "very concerned" about the rise in coronavirus cases across Yorkshire.

    The Nightingale site is currently on standby in case maximum capacity is reached in the region's hospitals.

    Dr Yvette Oade said: "I think people should be very concerned.

    "Infection rates in Yorkshire are one of the highest in the country and we've seen hospital admissions rising quickly over the past two weeks, so everybody needs to do their bit."

    Dr Oade added: "You only draw on your insurance policies when things have not worked to plan.

    "Right now the hospital isn't needed, our colleagues are doing a great job around the region."

    Witnesses are being sought after a 64-year-old man was found with "serious injuries" by the side of a road in Leeds.

    The man was taken to hospital after being found in a layby on the northbound carriageway of Scott Hall Road, near the junction with Sholebroke Mount, at 22:45 on Saturday.

    The man had been drinking with friends and had been dropped off at his home in Moortown at about 22:00, but was later found in Scott Hall Road, say police.

    Officers say they are considering the possibility the man was involved in a road traffic collision.

    Det Insp Guy Shackleton, said: “This is a busy main road and even at that time of night we would expect there to have been people about or passing the spot where this man was found.

    “We are keeping an open mind as to how he has come to be injured but clearly we need to establish what has happened to him.”

    Anyone who witnessed anything in Scott Hall Road leading up to when the man was found at about 22:45 is asked to contact police.

    A man has been jailed for life for the murder of another man who was found floating in a river near York 13 years ago.

    David Clarke, 43, was found dead in the River Foss, near the village of Towthorpe in North Yorkshire, in 2007.

    An inquest ruled he had drowned, but in 2019 David Roustoby (pictured above) was caught on video saying he had strangled Mr Clarke before dumping his body with the help of his girlfriend Sharon Houlden.

    Roustoby, 45, of Rawcliffe Lane, York, claimed the taped confession was concocted to impress his friends, but jurors heard he revealed details in the recording only known at the time to police.

    He was convicted of murder at Leeds Crown Court and jailed for at least 19 years.

    Ms Houlden (pictured below), 50, of Rowntree Avenue, York, who is also known as Sharon Roustoby, was jailed for two years and eight months after she pleaded guilty to assisting an offender.

    He was discovered by a passing motorist at about 22:45 on Saturday in a lay-by on Scott Hall Road, near the junction with Sholebroke Mount.

    He later contacted police following his discharge from hospital to report the incident, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    Police say they have been looking for the man in the CCTV image for four months, following an assault in the Totley area of Sheffield earlier this year.

    The attack took place on Friday 29 May when a man boarded a number 79 First Group bus and got into a fight with the bus driver over payment, say police.

    A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: "It's reported the man punched the bus driver in the face then got off the bus and headed in the direction of Mickley Lane."

    Anyone who recognises the man is being urged to contact police.
