A man has died after the car he was travelling in collided with another vehicle in Leeds.

Alan Lockwood, 41, from Horbury, died in hospital after being injured when the blue Chevrolet Spark he was travelling in collided with a blue Ford Eco Sport on Tuesday.

West Yorkshire Police say the crash happened at about 08.40 on the Horsforth Ring Road close to the McDonald's.

Officers investigating the collision say they want to speak to the occupants of another vehicle which is believed to have been involved. The only information known about this car is that it contained two females.

The force has appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Sheffield music festival Tramlines says it hopes to return in 2021 after this year's event was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The festival, which has its main stage at Hillsborough Park, is due to take place from 23 to 25 July 2021.

More than 90% of ticket holders from the cancelled 2020 event rolled over their tickets to the 2021 festival, it added.

Tramlines Festival moved from the city centre to Hillsborough Park in 2017 to grow the annual event.

More than 100,000 people attend the main festival last year, with fringe events being put on across the rest of the city.

People living in Rotherham have been urged to "rally together" to help curb the spread of coronavirus after the town was named as an 'area of concern' following a rise in infection rates.

Rotherham was added to the government's official coronavirus watchlist yesterday - after the infection rate rose from 62.5 per 100,000 population in the week ending 21 September to 91.6 in the week ending 28 September, according to data analysed by the BBC.

Reacting to the news council leader Chris Read said: "The data shows us that the infection is occurring across all areas of the borough and within all age groups.

"Rotherham is a strong and caring community, we need the community to once again rally together to keep each other safe and to protect our most vulnerable residents and all of our frontline workers.”

Consultant in public health for Rotherham, Jacqueline Wiltschinsky added: “We do not want to have tighter restrictions imposed but that is what will have to happen unless we can work together now to control the virus in Rotherham.”

The judge on ITV's The Voice has announced a 2021 tour and said, "after speaking to people in the industry" he "firmly believes" it will go ahead.

"If there are social distancing measures we can adapt the shows around that," he said.

His 25-date tour is scheduled to come to Scarborough's Open Air Theatre on 10 July and Leeds' Harewood House on 11 July.

A kestrel had to be rescued after falling into a slurry pit at a farm near Sheffield last week.

Farm workers called for help after the stricken bird of prey was spotted at a pig farm off Lightwood Lane on Sunday.

RSPCA animal welfare officer Liz Braidley said: "The poor kestrel was absolutely filthy after falling into the pig slurry pit.

"When I arrived he was collapsed and was clearly exhausted from struggling in the sticky substance.

"He couldn’t move and certainly wouldn’t have been able to fly out of the pit on his own so he was very lucky to have been spotted."

After a bath and a visit to the vet, he was released a few days later, the animal charity said.

Plans to build a multi-million pound hotel and apartment block in Leeds city centre have been scrapped.

Planning permission was granted for the project on George Street, opposite the Victoria Gate shopping centre, in 2018, with Leeds City Council partly funding the scheme.

A block of traders at the adjoining Leeds Kirkgate Market had already been moved in preparation for construction.

Leeds City Council said it had been informed about the decision.

The scheme, led by Leeds-based developer Town Centre Securities, was for nine ground floor shops and 126 hotel rooms and apartments over six floors.

The firm's latest accounts show it has written off £800,000 in development costs and decided not to proceed.
