  2. North Yorkshire diesel drivers encouraged to park outside townspublished at 09:29 British Summer Time 19 May 2017

    Mike Kemp
    Reporter, BBC Radio York

Drivers of older diesel vehicles in North Yorkshire could be encouraged to park outside the towns of Malton and Norton, to help cut air pollution.

    Car exhaust

It's one of the recommendations in a report looking at ways to improve air quality.

More houses will be built in Malton and Norton over the coming years and with it will come more traffic - adding to air pollution.

To tackle this, consultants for Ryedale District Council suggest more take-up of electric car and encouraging drivers of older diesel cars to park out of town and then walk in.

  3. Sheffield to London train updatepublished at 09:13 British Summer Time 19 May 2017

    Adam Pinder-Smith
    BBC Local Live, Yorkshire

I'm keeping an eye across any updates that come through regarding an earlier signal fault near Luton, which is affecting train services between Sheffield and London St Pancras.

The good news from operator East Midlands Trains is that services are leaving Sheffield on-time; it's further south where issues remain and that you're likely to experience delays:

The problem now is that staff and trains are not quite where they should be, so their best guess currently is that it will be around midday before a 'normal' service resumes.

Until then you're best option for travelling to London from Sheffield by train is to travel to Doncaster and connect with Virgin Trains East Coast services to London Kings Cross.

  5. Listen: Homeless in Leeds urged to register to votepublished at 08:48 British Summer Time 19 May 2017

Homeless people in Leeds are being urged to register to vote, with three days to go now until the deadline.

People with no fixed address can fill out a special form called a Declaration of Local Connection and put an address where they mostly spend their time.

Normally, people must state a home address when applying to join the electoral register - an obvious problem for homeless people.

Chris Fields from St Georges Crypt is encouraging people to use their services and address on the form:

  9. Cyber crime unit advising Leeds businessespublished at 07:59 British Summer Time 19 May 2017

The Yorkshire and Humber Regional Cyber Crime Unit will be talking to businesses and other organisations today about protecting themselves against ransomware.

    Cyber

The event in Leeds follows last weekend's cyber attacks, where several NHS hospitals and surgeries across our region, including the York Teaching Hospital, had their computers hacked.

Staff were unable to access patient records, appointments and prescriptions.

There remains some mystery as to how the campaign was first launched.

Experts are looking for what they call "patient zero" - the first computer to be infected - to understand the method of delivery.

From that point on, the malware spread virulently, because it looked for computers to spread to within an organisation, but also looked across the internet for other computers it could connect to and infect.
