    A sixth form at a West Yorkshire school is going to close at the end of next summer.

    Calderdale Council says Todmorden High isn't getting enough students over the age of 16 to be financially sustainable - and that's because of changes to government funding.

    Last night officials approved the move after a five-week consultation, the move was called a "tough decision".

    Sixth forms usually need a minimum of 200 students to be financially sustainable, Todmorden High's currently has 118.

    A 21-year-old man has died after he collapsed on a street in Leeds last night.

    The ringleader, David Armitage (pictured below), 26 of Brookfield Road in Headingley, was sentenced to two years.

    Judge Geoffrey Marson QC said at Leeds Crown Court: "This is a case which calls for a deterrent sentence."

    People had likened the scenes around Leeds on 31 October last year to the film Mad Max.

    Armitage did not take part, but filmed a live video on Facebook telling viewers "carnage, that's what we do".

    Police received about 160 calls from the public and were forced to close a section of Kirkstall Road.

    There are concerns over what will replace a building in the centre of Keighley which has been described as an "eyesore".

    Cavendish House is a former Keighley College building and is set to be demolished, but Bradford council has been warned it needs a plan for the site.

    Bosses at at the authority are today expected to designate more than £400,000 to knock down the Cavendish Building - and will market the site to potential developers.

    One town councillor says that he's worried that Keighley could end up with a similar situation to Bradford's hole in the ground which was left untouched for more than 10 years.

    The 34-year-old half-back is Leeds' leading try scorer in the summer era and was under contract until 2018.

    "When I was a youngster coming through the academy, I got my opportunity because a senior player moved on," McGuire said.

    "Now is the right time for me and the club to give our talented young players their opportunity."

    A Rotherham man will spend at least 27 years behind bars, after being found guilty of murdering a shop worker during a robbery at a town centre store.

    36-year-old Paul Storm Blueitt from Cambridge Crescent - attacked Judith Ducker at Wellgate News last September, before stealing £40 pounds from the till.

    The 64-year-old - who had breast cancer - was left with a fractured skull and eye socket, as well as bruising to the brain.

    Her head injuries were so bad, that she wasn't well enough to have any more cancer treatment.

    A CT scan revealed the disease had spread to her brain and she died in October.

    Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain, who lived in Leeds, feared she was seen as the "token Muslim" when she appeared on the BBC TV show, she has revealed.

    The champion of the 2015 series told the Radio Times, external religion was "incidental" to her and she "struggled" with it being so tied to her identity.

    The negative comments she received "shocked" her, she told the magazine.

    But she said those people were in the "minority" and most of the UK had reacted to her with "open arms".

    Thirteen people who took part in the Halloween "ride-out" which brought Leeds to a standstill last year have been jailed for at least 12 months.

    The man behind it, David Armitage, 26, of Brookfield Road, Headingley has been jailed for two years.

    Armitage did not take part, but filmed a live video on Facebook telling viewers "Carnage, that's what we do".

    The incident saw a large number of motorcyclists tear through streets and pedestrian areas in the city.

    Witnesses likened the scenes on 31 October to the Mel Gibson film Mad Max.

    Council bosses now have the power to buy up land to help with major roadworks between Halifax and Huddersfield.

    Compulsory purchase powers have been approved for land near the Calder and Hebble junction on the A629.

    Work there will start next year - as part of a £22m plan to speed up journeys.

    Two men are being hunted by police after they knocked on the window of a Dewsbury woman's house, pretended there was an emergency and pulled a knife on her.

    It happened in the early hours of yesterday on Millwater Avenue when the suspects got into her garden and knocked on a back window.

    One of them told her there was an emergency and she opened a window, she then saw the second man who was holding a knife.

    She pulled the window shut and called the police.

    Police want to speak to them after the arson attack which happened at Manningham Fisheries in the early hours of 21 May.

    The suspects entered the shop and started a fire inside which causing "extensive damage", according to officers..

  18. Search for missing teenage girls continuespublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 11 July 2017

    Police are continuing their search for two missing Vietnamese girls who were last seen in York, and have renewed their appeal for information from the public.

    North Yorkshire Police launched an appeal on Sunday as they searched for Thi Phan, 15, and 14-year-old Tram Le. They were last seen near York Minster at about 12:30 on Sunday.

    The girls, who now live in the York area, are both about 5ft 2ins tall.

    Tram Le was wearing a blue and white top and black trousers. Thi Phan was wearing jeans and a baggy shirt.

    Ch Insp Al Wescott, one of the officers leading the search, said: “Our officers are working around the clock to try to find Thi Phan and Tram Le.

    “The public’s help could be vital, and we’d urge anyone who thinks they may have seen the girls to get in touch immediately.

    "Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could help our investigation.”

    A woman has been verbally abused by a man in Broomhill during what police believe was a racially aggravated incident.

    The 29-year-old was walking back to her car on Chesterwood Drive at around 10:30 on Friday 30 June after dropping her children at school.

    As she approached the vehicle, the man - who's thought to be in his 50s - allegedly made aggressive and abusive comments to her.

    He's described as being white, slim, with grey, short curly hair, wearing a blue jumper and driving a light blue van.
