Sexual health clinics in Sheffield will be allowed to provide a pill on the NHS which dramatically reduces the risk of being infected with HIV.
Prep (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a daily pill that disables HIV before it gets a stranglehold in the body.
Trials suggest it can cut the risk of being infected by up to 86%, external.
NHS England has made the decision as part of a £10m trial.
It comes a year after the NHS lost a legal battle to argue the drug should be provided by councils rather than the health service.
