    Resurfacing work is to take place on Royal Albert Drive in Scarborough next month.

    The work will include Peasholm Gap and will start on Monday 11 September for four weeks.

    Temporary traffic lights will be in operation during the work. There will be pedestrian access at all times.

    A council spokesman said: “We have scheduled the work for after the school holidays to cause as little disruption as possible and would like to thank residents and motorists in advance for their patience and co-operation.’’

    Sheffield City Council officials have won a High Court fight with protesters trying to halt a street tree-felling programme.

    A judge has made orders stopping people taking "unlawful direct action" preventing the "lawful" felling of roadside trees.

    Mr Justice Males analysed evidence at a trial in Leeds in July and handed down a ruling in London on Tuesday.

    Country parks in the Wakefield area have once again been targeted by arsonists.

    The council say this bird watching hide at Anglers (pictured) has been burned down and a picnic bench at Newmillerdam was set on fire and completely destroyed.

    Officials say they're "disgusted" - and say it'll cost more than a thousand pounds to repair.

    Its the latest in a series of incidents involving fire damage.

    Campaigners want to reopen a railway tunnel between Bradford and Halifax and turn it into Europe's longest underground cycle way.

    The Queensbury Tunnel, between Bradford and Halifax, needs expensive repairs and there are fears its owners might fill it in.

    The Queensbury Tunnel Society say converting the tunnel to a cycle path would help the regional economy, but time's running out because the work to close it up could start next summer.

    Graeme Bickerdike is the group's engineering coordinator and he says "time is running out and there's a lot of work to do", but the tunnel "could provide genuine benefit in the future":

    Members of Unite are walking-out as part of a dispute over redundancy arrangements, following a row over the transfer of hundreds of workers in the East Midlands.

    The union has warned the strikes at five sites across the country will affect deliveries, but Argos has denied this, and calls the action "unnecessary".

    Police have just released an e-fit image of a man after an attack on Airbourne Road, Doncaster in June.

    A 10-year-old girl was reportedly hit by a man, who also punched a 36-year-old woman in the face.

    The alleged attack happened on Saturday, 17 June, at around 17:00 near a classic car show.

    The man was involved in an argument with another woman near the Cheswold pub, before the 36-year-old tried to intervene.

    She was punched in the face and has serious injuries.

  9. Worker saw Tadcaster sewage plant victim 'catch fire'published at 09:39 British Summer Time 15 August 2017

    A worker who tried to rescue his colleague from a fatal blaze at a water sewage plant saw "his whole body catch fire", an inquest has heard.

    Mick Jennings, 55, died in hospital following the blaze in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, on 20 July 2015.

    The jury at Selby Civic Centre heard sparks from a grinding tool he used caused the fire at a treatment tank.

    David Jones recalled the moment his own thigh caught fire as he pulled Mr Jennings out of a well.

    In a statement read out in court by Coroner Robert Turnbull, Mr Jones, who was not at the inquest, said he was working with Mr Jennings when he saw "sparks on Mick's right leg... He [Mr Jennings] went to pat it then his whole body caught fire".

    Councillors are due to visit the site of a planned asphalt plant near York later.

    Campaigners against the development at Hessay are expected to turn out to protest.

    Hundreds of people have objected to plans for the site at Hessay near the A59, worried about pollution, increased traffic and the impact they say it would have on green belt land.

    The company behind it says it's worked with the council to address these issues.

    The council's planning committee has the final say over whether to give approval on Thursday.

    A 21-year-old woman has suffered a head injury after she was attacked while walking her two dogs on the Trans-Pennine trail near Dodworth, Barnsley.

    It happened on Saturday at around 13:45 when she was approached from behind by a person who attacked her, knocking her to the ground.

    There's no description of the offender, but it happened close to Gilroyd Lane in the Gilroyd area, and police are asking for people to report anyone who they think was acting suspiciously at the time.

    There are severe delays on the M18 southbound in South Yorkshire at junction three after a crash involving a lorry.

    Two lanes of three are blocked.

    Traffic officers are at scene and recovery is on the way to move the debris.

    Delays are currently around an hour for people going southbound.

    Police in Kirklees want to speak to this man after an assault in Huddersfield in June.

    The incident happened in the Plumber's Arms in Huddersfield town centre around 20:30 on Sunday 11 June, when a man in his 50’s was assaulted.

    Officers are appealing to anyone who can identify this man or who has any information about the incident to come forward.

    That means people living there will either have to travel to a branch or use their local post office for traditional banking services.

    A High Court ruling on whether Sheffield City Council can stop protesters interfering with its tree felling programme is expected later today.

    Opponents of the tree felling scheme say the council is cutting down healthy trees.

    A group of armed robbers fled empty-handed after attacking a shop in Bradford.

    Police have issued an e-fit image of a man they want after the attempted robbery at Kubus Euro News on Clayton Road.

    The three Asian men left after the incident on Sunday, 6 August with two of them heading down Clayton Road and then onto Cemetery Road and Northside Terrace.

    The third ran down a pathway towards Scholemoor Road.

    No-one was injured.

    The Normanton Household Waste Recycling Centre at Welbeck will close permanently on Sunday, 17 September, Wakefield Council has announced.

    The council say the facility is being closed to allow restoration work to take place, with planning permission at the site set to expire in May 2018.

    Coun Maureen Cummings, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Communities, said: “Opening hours have been extended at the three other sites during the summer months to handle any increase in demand."

    More than 150 business leaders have called on South Yorkshire's four councils to "push ahead" with the £900m devolution deal first tabled in 2015.

    They say further delay to signing the agreement was of "real concern" and "potentially very damaging".

    The deal was put in doubt when 17 councils across Yorkshire, including Doncaster and Barnsley, said they were exploring a possible county-wide deal.

    The BBC has contacted the four councils for comment.

    In a letter to Sir Steve Houghton, Ros Jones, Chris Read and Julie Dore - the leaders of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield councils respectively - the group warned many business leaders were "very concerned about reported further delays".
