  1. Halifax museum reopens its doors after 17 yearspublished at 08:32 British Summer Time 30 August 2017

There'll be a new chance to celebrate Calderdale's heritage next month with the district's industrial museum due to re-open after 17 years.

    Industrial Museum

The museum, in Halifax, was officially closed in 2000, but only a small part of it was actually dismantled, with some exhibits going into store.

Since 2011, members of Calderdale Industrial Museum Association (CIMA), have been trying to bring the site back to life in a bid to reopen it to the public.

Six years on, Calderdale Council, which owns the museum building and collection, has granted CIMA a licence to operate the museum on its behalf.

The museum's doors are now due to be thrown open once again on Saturday 9 September.

  2. Listen: Death registrations in Yorkshire slowed by bureaucracypublished at 08:17 British Summer Time 30 August 2017

Councils across Yorkshire are failing to register thousands of deaths within the legal time limit.

Most deaths should be officially registered within five days, but figures obtained by the BBC show the target was missed more than 18,000 times in our region last year.

In West Yorkshire, delays meant two fifths of deaths were registered after the five-day limit.

Since 2011, Leeds and Wakefield have seen some of the biggest increases in waits in the country.

Alison Crake, from the National Association of Funeral Directors, says the bureaucracy involved after a death can cause delays:

The Yorkshire Cancer Research shop in Bridge Street, Tadcaster, was forced to close following the Boxing Day flood of 2015 which led to the partial collapse of the town's bridge.

The shop has had to be extensively refurbished following damage to the floor, walls and doors.

  4. All the world's a stage?: Decision due on York's Shakespeare theatrepublished at 07:45

A decision is due to be made this week on plans for York to host a full-scale replica of a traditional Shakespearean theatre.

If given the go-ahead, the replica theatre will run between May and September next year.

But the "pop-up" theatre would mean the loss of about 135 city centre car parking spaces for four months because it would be constructed on part of York Castle car park.

City of York Council estimates the theatre could bring in about £7m to the city - and says it would be reimbursed for the loss of parking revenue by nearly £200,000.

The bid to transport audiences back to the 16th century all hangs on a decision tomorrow by City of York Council's executive board.

  5. Listen: Sheffield Council accused of failing children with special needspublished at 07:28 British Summer Time 30 August 2017

A petition has been launched accusing Sheffield City Council of failing disabled children as a result of trying to save money.

Campaigners from Sparkle Sheffield, a support group for children with autism, say the Special Educational Needs department, which deals with school provision for young people with complex needs, is denying their children the right to an education.

They've launched a video called Stop the Abuse and claim the authority's lack of help is causing children as young as six anxiety and depression.

Chrissy Meleady, an advocate who works with the charity, says it's causing children as young as six to suffer:

Mr Clyde was reported missing at about 04:45 on Tuesday and was last seen on Barnsley Road.

Officers say they're concerned for his welfare.

He's described as about 6ft 2ins tall, of slim build with short ginger hair.

He's believed to be waring a red lycra hat with a black beanie over the top, a grey jacket, black pyjama-type bottoms, black trainers and a red long-sleeved top.

Anyone with information about Mr Clyde's whereabouts is being asked to contact police.

  8. Longer funeral waits for West Yorkshire familiespublished at 06:49 British Summer Time 30 August 2017

Families of people in West Yorkshire who've died are facing longer waits to be able to arrange their funerals, it's emerged

    Coffin

The government says deaths should be officially registered with the council within five days of someone dying.

But last year delays meant two-fifths of deaths weren't registered within that period, according to new figures from the General Register Council.

Since 2011, Leeds and Wakefield have seen some of the biggest increases in waits in the country.

Cuts to council budgets are among the reasons, the National Association of Funeral Directors said.

The Local Government Association said councils were tackling the delays.
