  2. Travel: Delays on the southbound M1 because of closurepublished at 09:26 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2017

    The southbound M1 is closed between J31 for Sheffield and J30 for Worksop because of a serious accident involving two lorries.

    The road has been closed since around 05:00.

    Delays are currently back to J32 for the M18.

    Highways England say they expect traffic movement on the M1 southbound to return to normal by 11:45 GMT at the earliest.

    Earlier this morning there was an accident involving two lorries and a car between junctions 31 and 32 - but despite the amount of damage at the scene to the vehicles there were no serious injuries.

    We've had an update on the serious accident on the southbound M1 this morning.

    Police have confirmed no one was seriously injured in the accident which involved two lorries and a car.

    The road is still closed southbound between J31 and J30 while they recover the vehicles.

    The M1 southbound has been closed since around 05:00 this morning after a serious accident involving two lorries.

    The diversion for long distance traffic is to exit the M1 at J32 and use the northbound M18 towards the A1(M) J2 and go southbound to either the A46 or A52 and head westbound near Nottingham towards the M1 J25.

    Local traffic is using surrounding roads which are all very busy as people divert.

  7. 'First community-run' petrol station operates in Yorkshire Dalespublished at 08:13 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2017

    North Yorkshire is now home to what's thought to be England's first community-run filling station.

    It's in Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales and will guarantee people can buy fuel locally.

    If the station had closed, it would've meant a 36-mile round trip to fill up.

    The Upper Dales Community Partnership, based in Hawes, which also runs a post office, bus company and library, take over running it from today.

    John Blackie, councillor and executive chair of the partnership, said: "The petrol station is hugely important to Hawes. It fuels every day life, business and tourism in the area."

    There were more than 40,000 petrol stations in the UK in the 1950s but that figure has dropped to about 6,000, said Mr Blackie.

    A special, two-day only offer, new museum is opening in Stocksbridge in Sheffield.

    It's a pop-up museum at Fox Valley which will celebrate 175 years of steelworks in the town.

    It'll be based in the Independent quarter of the shopping centre.

    Items and artefacts from the area's industrial past will be on show.

    There are concerns over a series of attacks on buses around Sheffield.

    First Bus has confirmed that four of their vehicles suffered major damage on routes around the city on Hallowe'en.

    One of the incidents happened in the afternoon and three took place in the evening.

    Police are working with First and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify those responsible.

    After a serious collision involving two cars and two lorries the M1 remains closed southbound between junction 31 and junction 30.

    Police are at the scene working to clear the vehicles involved and debris.

    A diversion is in place from junction 32 using the M18.

  13. Two Northallerton teenagers on conspiracy to murder chargespublished at 06:42 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2017

    Two 14-year-old boys from Northallerton are due in court today charged with conspiracy to murder.

    It follows an investigation involving counter terrorism police.

    The teenagers were initially arrested on suspicion of preparing an act of terrorism in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, on Saturday.

    Searches were carried out at a number of properties in the market town, including a disused garage (pictured).

    One of the boys is also charged with aggravated burglary.

    The pair are due to appear before magistrates in Leeds today.
