    A trader at Leeds Market who was attacked by a rough sleeper says she's received an overwhelming response after starting a appeal for homeless people.

    Manjit Kaur had a cup of boiling water thrown in her face, but says the woman who did it needs help rather than punishment.

    Now she's hosting a raffle, with proceeds going to city homeless charity Simon on the Streets.

    People in North Yorkshire who are in danger of getting type 2 diabetes could soon be asked to wear devices to monitor their activity levels.

    GP surgeries in York and Malton are to take part in the pilot, which will also include access to health coaches online.

    The wearable technology, which is designed to help reduce obesity, will prompt patients to be more active and send out motivational messages.

    Everybodys Talking About Jamie is set in Sheffield and opened at the Crucible earlier this year.

    It got rave reviews and it's getting a lot of attention now it's moved to London.

    The focus is on a 16-year-old preparing for his prom, where he plans to wear a dress.

    A man's been charged with the murder of a prisoner at Armley Jail in Leeds.

    A 28-year-old serving prisoner at the jail has been charged with the murder of a 22-year-old man.

    The man was was found dead in his cell on Sunday, police say.

    The charged man is expected to appear before Leeds Magistrates' Court later.

    West Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner is warning that the county's force isn't getting enough money to deal with increased demand on services.

    Mark Burns-Williamson (pictured) is due to meet local MPs later to ask them to back his call for better funding.

    Since 2010, the West Yorkshire force's budget has been cut by £140m with the loss of 2,000 police officers and staff, Mr Burns-Williamson says.

    He says he's worried a flat budget settlement won't be enough to deal with things like increased demand and pay rises for officers.

    The Home Secretary has previously urged police forces to think about how they use the cash they have, rather than asking for more.

    Utility companies could soon face stricter controls over when they can carry out roadworks in North Yorkshire.

    The county council says it hopes a proposed permit scheme could reduce disruption and encourage more work to be done during off-peak times, as well as avoiding busy times of year.

    Companies would also face penalties if they breached conditions or worked without a permit.

    North Yorkshire County Council is today expected to sign-off plans for the new permit scheme, which would mean utility companies having to pay a fee to apply to do their work.

    A 15-year-old pupil who stabbed his teacher to death in a Leeds classroom told other pupils of his plan to attack her, an inquest has heard.

    Ann Maguire, 61, was murdered by Will Cornick at Corpus Christi Catholic College in April 2014.

    She was stabbed seven times, including one blow which cut her jugular vein.

    Cornick boasted to other pupils about attacking the teacher, but they did not believe him and did not report it, Wakefield Coroners Court heard.

    The inquest heard Cornick had told at least 10 other pupils precisely what he was going to do, where he was going to do it and how he was going to do it.

    The inquest continues.

    Parts of Sheffield have been identified as having some of the highest levels of illiteracy in the country.

    The findings come from The National Literacy Trust, which works in communities across England to try and improve reading levels.

    Hillsborough and Brightside was ranked 5th out of 553 constituencies with the greatest "literacy need".

    Earlier, we mentioned that police were appealing for help in finding a missing boy from Bradford.

    They've just told us the good news that 11-year-old Brooklyn Jones has been found.

    According to police, he's "safe and well" and officers have thanked everybody who shared their appeal.

    A man from East Yorkshire is due in court this morning charged with raping a woman in York nearly 30 years ago.

    The 53-year-old, from Goole, was charged with rape and a Section 14 indecent assault under the previous Sexual Offences Act.

    The alleged offence occurred in the Castlegate area of York (pictured) early on 29 October 1988, said police.

    The man has been remanded in custody to appear at York Magistrates' Court later today.

    His arrest follows a "significant amount of work" by a North Yorkshire and Cleveland cold case investigation team, police said.

    The victim was aged 27 at the time of the incident and is being supported by specialist officers.

    Concerns are growing for an 11-year-old boy from Bradford who's not been seen since going to school yesterday.

    Brooklyn Jones was last seen at about 08:50 on Monday morning at school on Flockton Road, heading towards the nearby park.

    It's possible he may also have been, external in the Horton Park area at about 15:00, possibly with a pink pushbike, say police.

    Brooklyn is described as white, 4ft tall, slim with short, dark brown hair. He was last seen wearing black trousers and a black puffa-style jacket.
