  2. 'Not in public interest' to charge farrier over Hillsborough, prosecutors saypublished at 13:23 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2017

While there was enough evidence to charge a civilian farrier, it was not deemed in the public interest to do so, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.

The farrier potentially faced a charge of perverting the course of justice over an allegation of falsified evidence relating to a police horse being injured outside the stadium before the 1989 FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

Two elements are needed for a prosecution to go ahead - that there is enough evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction, and that it would be in the public interest to do so.

The CPS, which said it had "thoroughly considered" evidence submitted by the Independent Police Complaints Commission in June 2017, added that the families of the 96 Hillsborough victims have been informed of its decision not to prosecute.

Six men, including match commander David Duckenfield, are already facing prosecution for alleged offences related to the disaster and its aftermath.

  3. Police officer and farrier will not be charged over Hillsborough conductpublished at 13:14 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2017

A police officer and a civilian farrier will not be prosecuted over their conduct at the time of the Hillsborough disaster, the Crown Prosecution Service has said.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission investigated an allegation made in 1989 that a police horse had been burned with cigarettes by Liverpool supporters before their FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest at the stadium in Sheffield.

The mounted South Yorkshire Police officer was seen on camera lashing out towards fans who he later claimed were burning his horse.

The farrier, a friend of the police officer, claimed to have seen serious injuries to the animal.

The allegation was that their accounts were false and were given to protect the police officer from disciplinary action.

  18. Commerce boss's warning over cost of no devolution dealpublished at 10:50 Greenwich Mean Time 15 December 2017

    Kevin Larkin
    Political reporter, BBC Radio Sheffield

The lack of a devolution deal for Yorkshire could cost South Yorkshire about £70m a year, according to the head of Sheffield's Chamber of Commerce.

    Richard Wright

It had been feared the county would lose about £30m a year without a deal, but Richard Wright thinks it's a lot higher.

He says he's calculated the loss of funding in the South Yorkshire agreement and lack of access to other government support to areas with devolution could cost £684m over the next years.

Barnsley and Doncaster councils have said they now wish to pursue a Yorkshire-wide proposal instead of a South Yorkshire-wide agreement signed in 2015.

The Sheffield City Region, which is behind the South Yorkshire deal, says the figures from Sheffield Chamber are "broadly accurate".
