German Max Walscheid eventually sprinted to victory on the sun-drenched North Bay in Scarborough after the 181km stage from Richmond.

The Team Sunweb rider said he could not have picked a better spot to do it in as huge crowds basked in glorious weather along Royal Albert Drive.

"The scenery is incredible and the Yorkshire fans, I think they are the best, there were massive crowds all over the road," he said.

Another terrific Tour de Yorkshire reaches its conclusion with a final stage that promises to be a brute - when will this always fascinating race be elevated to a higher status?

There are six categorised climbs and while none on their own would be particularly testing for the riders, when clubbed together they are going to hurt.

Race leader Magnus Cort Nielsen has a healthy 10-second advantage but if he is not at the top of his game today then that lead can disappear in 100m of single climb.

Expect the aggressive BMC Racing approach to continue. They know they need to break the Dane if they are to get their man Greg van Avermaet to the finish line first.

And Serge Pauwels' Dimension Data team will be looking to make up for missed opportunities to help their leader defend his Tour de Yorkshire crown.

The bonus seconds on the finish line in Leeds could well prove crucial.
