Adam Waring, 29, jumped out of the transit van at the top of Trooper Lane, in Halifax, after being pursued by police on 4 June.
Bradford Crown Court heard how £1,600 of damage was caused when the vehicle rolled back down the hill and collided with the police car.
Waring, of Dunstan Street, Bolton, who was disqualified from driving at the time, was arrested in some undergrowth nearby.
He was jailed for 17 months after he pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. He was also banned from driving for two years.

Transport bosses have called for Goole to get a direct hourly train service to Leeds.
At present there are just two direct trains per day, but Transport for the North says that's not enough.
The transport body wants the frequent Leeds to Knottingley service to be extended to Goole via a little-used section of track via Rawcliffe and Snaith.
The plan is being backed by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, which says it's easily achievable with little impact on existing services.
Currently, Goole passengers wanting to get to Leeds have to go via Brough but the direct trains would be quicker and the price of a single ticket would fall from around £22 to £13.

Championship-side Huddersfield Town have unveiled their "real" home shirt, 48 hours after debuting one with a large Paddy Power advert on the front.
The previous shirt, which had a large advert for the betting company splashed across the front, was released to much anger from fans and prompted the FA to contact the club over the size of the logo.
But now the West Yorkshire club has revealed a new home kit without any sponsor.
The club says it is part of a campaign backing a move towards unbranded football kits.
