    A man who died after being hit by a car in York earlier this month has been named by police.

    Eze Onyedikachi, 38, from Leeds, died after being struck by a grey estate car in Station Road, close to Rougier Street, in the early hours of 9 February.

    North Yorkshire Police has appealed for anyone who saw what happened or may have dashcam footage of the incident to contact them.

    The funeral of former Doncaster Rovers, Manchester United and Northern Ireland goalkeeper Harry Gregg is taking place.

    Gregg, a hero of the 1958 Munich air disaster and who made 25 appearances for Northern Ireland between 1954 and 1963, died on Sunday aged 87.

    He bravely rescued team-mates and other passengers following the Munich plane crash in which 23 were killed.

    His funeral service got under way in St Patrick's Parish Church in Coleraine at 12:00 GMT.

    Among the mourners to arrive at the church were former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Bobby Charlton and former striker Denis Law.

    When he joined United from Doncaster in December 1957 for £23,500, Gregg was the world's most expensive goalkeeper and was voted the best at the following year's World Cup.

    Flood victims in York are being given the chance to tell the Environment Agency and the city's Labour MP, Rachel Maskell, what support has been like during the recent floods.

    Ms Maskell, who organised tonight's meeting, says: "I hope residents will reflect on what's happened over the last few days, tell us where there are weaknesses in the council's plans and also what's not happened around flood protection since the 2015 floods.

    "The Environment Agency is coming along to listen and to take those views down to Westminster to speak to government ministers about what more needs to be done."

    The flood meeting starts at 17:00 at the City of York Council's West Offices.

    The level of the River Ouse in York is currently 3.48m above its normal level, external and three flood warnings, external remain in place.

    The Met Office has issued a warning for heavy rain and high winds, external, starting at about lunchtime and lasting into the weekend.

    Aisha was last seen shortly after midnight in the Holderness Road area.

    She's described as about 5ft 1in tall and she was last seen wearing a black North Face jacket.

    She was also carrying a large blush pink Tommy Hilfiger bag and was wearing her hair in a bun.

    Pedestrians and cyclists are once again using riverside paths in York despite continuing high levels on the River Ouse.

    The level on the river is rising slowly and has risen a couple of centimetres since this time yesterday.

    At 09:00 this morning, it was 3.49m above its usual level. At the same time yesterday the level was 3.43m.

    The Environment Agency has issued seven flood warnings for North Yorkshire, external.

    Early blueprints to replace the former Santander building in Leeds city centre with a 33-storey student accommodation block are set to be discussed by planning chiefs this week.

    A pre-application from developers Merrion Street Ltd outlines early plans to demolish 44 Merrion Street and replace it with a 545-bed student accommodation building.

    The Santander offices at the site closed last year.

    According to a report set to go before Leeds City Council’s city plans panel, the proposed development could also include "a mix of ground floor uses", potentially including "retail space and a community/arts centre".

    As this is only at pre-application stage, no decision will be made on the proposals as more detailed plans are expected to be submitted later this year.

    Flooding from Storm Dennis has ruined crops at one farm in North Yorkshire which would have been used to make 300,000 loaves of bread, a farmer has said.

    Richard Bramley farms at Kelfield, near Selby, and is a member of the National Farmers' Union's Environment Forum.

    He says: "It's about 50 acres of bread wheat destined for this summer's harvest and for people's bread for the following year.

    "I doesn't mean a lot when you say 50 acres, but that would've gone into 300,000 loaves of bread."

    Mr Bramley is calling for more help for farmers whose businesses are being hit by flooding on an increasingly regular basis.

    The government announced last night it intends to make thousands of pounds of support, including grants, council tax relief and business rate relief, available to businesses in areas affected by flooding, external.

    Drivers in East Yorkshire are being warned the speed limit on the Humber Bridge has been reduced from its usual 50mph to 30mph.

    At the moment, the bridge is open to all vehicles following periods during Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis when high-sided and "wind vulnerable" vehicles were banned:

    Do you recognise this man? Police in Doncaster have released an e-fit image of a man they want to speak to following an attempted robbery in the town centre last year.

    At about 14:30 on Wednesday 27 November, a 70-year-old man was getting into his car on Duke Street after visiting a jewellers.

    The victim was approached by a man who tried to steal his property from him, but he managed to fend him off and leave the scene in his car.

    The suspect is described as white, in his late 40s, with a round, clean-shaven face and short brown hair.

    Anyone who recognises the man in the picture is being asked to contact police.

  14. Supporters asked to help flooded football club clean-uppublished at 08:00 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2020

    A 125-year-old North Yorkshire football club damaged by storms Ciara and Dennis is asking supporters to help out when the clean-up begins today.

    Tadcaster Albion, on the banks of the River Wharfe at Tadcaster, launched an appeal following what it estimates is £42,000 worth of damage caused by the storms.

    The side, who play in the North West division of the Northern Premier League, are next due to play at the ground on 7 March, but rain from the storms left the pitch under 1.6m of water.

    The club says: "The water levels are down and it is now time to clear up the mess.

    "We start with the club house and would be delighted if supporters could come down between 13:00 and 16:00 to help."

    The club says it'll begin the task of cleaning the exterior areas of the ground next week and will need as many supporters as possible to help

    A JustGiving page set up to raise £12,000 has so far reached a total of £6,059.

    A man's being treated in hospital for serious injuries after a car collided with a wall in West Yorkshire in the early hours of this morning.

    It happened at about 01:25 close to Yew Bank Lodge on the B6265 Skipton Road at Utley, near Keighley, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    The driver of a silver Ford Focus, a 26-year-old man, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries.

    Skipton Road remains closed between Station Road in Steeton and St Johns Road in Low Utley following the incident.

    The road closure is expected to remain in place for most of the morning, say police.

  18. 'Sea to Sheffield': High hopes for South Yorkshire salmonpublished at 17:34 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2020

    Work is taking place to help introduce salmon back into the River Don in Rotherham, with a final fish pass due to be completed in summer.

    The passes are being created between Sheffield and Doncaster to enable salmon to swim freely up the river.

    The last pass is being installed at Masbrough Weir, which will help the fish return to their spawning grounds.

    Last year, an adult salmon was found in the River Don, external after an absence of 150 years.

    Yorkshire Water says it's been working with partner agencies, with the last pass due to be finished in May.

    Ben Gillespie, from Yorkshire Water said: “We’ve been working with the Don Catchment Rivers Trust to improve the River Don for many years, and it’s fantastic to now fully connect up the river from sea to Sheffield.

    "We’re hoping to see an improved river environment, and knock on societal benefits, with people understanding and valuing their local river more than ever before”.

  19. Lorry driver 'fell asleep' just before fatal A66 crashpublished at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2020

    A lorry driver who's accused of falling asleep at the wheel and causing the death of another driver on the A66 has gone on trial at Carlisle Crown Court.

    Rhys Gardiner, 24, of Old Hall Road, Bentley, Doncaster, collided head-on with another lorry near Kirkby Thore in the early hours of 3 April 2018, killing the 72-year-old driver.

    Prosecutor Tim Harkness, opening his case, said Mr Gardiner had been out socialising until the small hours on 2 April, and texted his girlfriend to say he was tired, just before setting out on his journey.

    The driver told police afterwards he had no memory of falling asleep, and denies causing death by dangerous driving.

    The trial continues.

    A package which was discovered in Leeds city centre prompting the evacuation of a number of nearby buildings is "not believed to be suspicious", say police.

    Several roads around Park Place were closed and offices evacuated after the package was found earlier today.

    However, after the Army's bomb squad arrived and assessed the item, it was found to not be suspicious.

    West Yorkshire Police thanked the public for their patience while a cordon was in place.
