Head coach Vanessa Ellis (pictured) has said that the Hatters, who were formed in 1961, need £60,000 to enter the WBBL.

"Because of Covid-19, a lot of our sponsors can't give us as much [money] so we can't commit to playing next season," she told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"We're gutted. It's out of our hands, there's nothing we can do."

She added: "At the moment we've let the league know that we don't think we'll enter. They're giving us time to find the funding but it doesn't look likely that we'll find the money."

The Hatters won the treble in the inaugural season of the WBBL in 2014-15 and the WBBL Trophy is named after Hatters founder Betty Codona.

Manningham Old Manor House on on Rosebury Road is one of the city's oldest surviving buildings, but has been empty since 2000.

Conservation groups have raised concerns for years about the derelict Grade II-listed building.

A council report said: "Internally, the building has been stripped to a shell and has suffered through poor and abortive alteration works, leaving the building partly filled with debris and lacking any floors or wall finishes."

Historic England, which has provided interim funding to stop the manor degrading further, said it is "a rare surviving building of its type and a key building in the conservation area".

Councillors have been urged to approve a compulsory purchase order at a meeting on Tuesday as a "last resort".

Hull and Bradford will be among the places hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report out today.

The Social Market Foundation (SMF) says London and the South East will bounce back more quickly.

Amy Norman from the SMF says: "Hull has pre-existing economic conditions such as its employment rate, which means it's likely to see a slower recovery and potentially prolonged consequences, in comparison to other areas of the country."

The report also found that young people were more vulnerable to the economic impacts of the virus crisis.

It said people between the ages of 20 and 24 were least likely to work in sectors like education, health or public administration, which have seen fewer people furloughed or made redundant.

The BBC has approached the government for comment.
