    The Mayor of Doncaster says she has been fighting against Tier 3 coronavirus restrictions being imposed on the town, but it could still be on the horizon.

    Doncaster is currently subject to Tier 2 restrictions in line with the rest of South Yorkshire, but the infection rate in the town in the week ending 16 October was the lowest of the four metropolitan boroughs at 277 cases per 100,000 people.

    The highest is in Sheffield where latest figures show an infection rate of 377.7 cases per 100,000 people.

    Responding to a question on Twitter, external about what action she was taking to stop Doncaster being moved up a tier, Mayor Ros Jones said: "I've been fighting off Doncaster going into Tier 3, but it may only be a matter of time.

    "If we go to Tier 3 then our residents and businesses will need urgent support. I will continue to push for Doncaster to be treated separate from other areas."

    Meanwhile, in a video posted on YouTube on Monday, external, the director of public health for Sheffield, Greg Fell, said it was likely South Yorkshire would face more restrictions.

    "It's difficult to call when that might be. We're currently in the high risk category, we may move to the very high risk category," Mr Fell said.

    A number of shots have been fired at a house in Bradford, police say.

    Damage "consistent with bullet holes" was caused to the window of the house on Coleshill Way in the early hours of the morning, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    Det Ch Insp Vanessa Rolfe said: “We believe this was a targeted incident and there is not a risk to the wider public.

    “High visibility patrols will be deployed into the area today and the following days to provide support and reassurance to residents."

    Anyone with information about the incident or who saw what happened is being urged to contact police.

    Hull is to receive almost £800,000 of government funding to improve housing for vulnerable people.

    The city is one of five priority areas across the country which has been chosen to look at providing better support for those who need extra help to live independently.

    The pilot will see Hull City Council use "innovative" ideas for helping to support vulnerable people and reduce anti-social behaviour, with a focus on short-term accommodation.

    Kelly Tolhurst, Minister for Rough Sleeping and Housing, said: ““Providing good quality homes to people who have been homeless, or who are unable to live independently, is fundamental to our support for vulnerable people.

    “I know that most supported housing providers already provide a good service and it is right that we expect standards to be high.

    “The pilots we are funding will explore different approaches to supported housing, to further raise the quality of service in Hull."

    The money is being provided by the government's Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

    A year-long trial of electric scooters has begun in York.

    The scheme was agreed last month by City of York Council as a way to give people "more environmentally friendly travel options".

    The vehicles can be ridden on roads and cycle paths - but not on pavements.

    Rental hubs have been set up at York Hospital and the University of York.

    People hiring the scooters pay £1 to unlock the vehicle and 15p per minute travelled.

    Councillor Andy D’Agorne said:“This will provide an opportunity to explore how e-scooters might add to the mix of sustainable transport options, while helping to improve air quality and expand our electrical vehicle charging offer."

    Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a woman was seriously injured when she was hit by a van in a pub car park in South Yorkshire.

    Emergency services were called to the Black Bull pub on Main Street, Aughton, Rotherham, at about 12:15 on Saturday after reports a Vauxhall Astra van had collided with an 89-year-old woman.

    The woman was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries, police say.

    PC Adrian Hill, from South Yorkshire Police, said: “The driver of the Vauxhall van had parked in the car park to visit a nearby business.

    "On officers' arrival at the scene, the driver was routinely breath-tested, blowing zero. He is fully co-operating with our inquiries.

    “I’m interested in speaking to anyone who might have seen the elderly lady on Main Street or near the Black Bull around the time of the collision."

    Anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area at around the time of the incident is also being asked to get in touch with officers.

    A man has been jailed for three years for possessing images of child sex abuse and offences involving animals.

    The judge at Bradford Crown Court said Rehan Baig's actions would make a right-thinking person "sick to their stomach".

    His wife, Haleema Baig, was given a six-month suspended sentence for filming her husband.

    The offences were discovered when officers searched the family home on Shepherd Street, Bradford, last July.

    Police seized computer equipment with 49 images of children, including 11 in the most serious category. The children were as young as six.

    Baig's wife admitted three counts of aiding and abetting offences involving an animal.

    Baig admitted three counts of making indecent images of children, three counts of possessing extreme pornography, three offences involving an animal, and two counts of possession of controlled drugs.

    Sentencing the couple, Judge Richard Mansell QC said Baig's offending was "depraved, perverted and despicable".

    A man has been arrested after a 10-year-old boy died following a crash on a Hull road yesterday evening.

    A blue BMW is believed to have collided with two boys who were riding a bike on Anlaby Road on the flyover near Selby Street at about 18:00 on Monday.

    Both boys were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but one boy died a short time later, police say.

    The other boy remains in hospital in a critical condition, Humberside Police added.

    A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences in connection with the collision and remains in custody.

    Any witnesses to the crash, or anyone who saw the boys or the BMW before it happened, are asked to get in touch with police.

    People are being asked to only use Doncaster Royal Infirmary's Accident and Emergency department in a "genuine emergency" as it is "really busy" at the moment.

    The hospital trust said coronavirus cases continue to rise, with 140 people in hospital needing treatment at both Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital.

    It issued the plea this morning asking people people to only use the hospital's urgent care services if they need "genuine emergency care".

    It added: “The Same Day Health Centre, your local practice, pharmacies and NHS 111 can all provide care for non-emergency illnesses and injuries.

    "This will leave our Emergency Department teams free to concentrate on those patients in the most urgent need.

    “Please only come to our hospital if it’s a genuine emergency or if you have a scheduled appointment. Thank you very much for your support.”

    Police searching for a wanted man in York are urging the public to report any sightings of him.

    Stephen Paxton, 41, is wanted as part of an investigation into an assault in which two people, a vulnerable man and another person who intervened, were punched and kicked.

    The attack happened on Union Terrace on Friday 11 September.

    A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "Paxton has no fixed address but has connections in York and is believed to be in the area."

    Anyone who has information about his whereabouts is being urged to contact police.

    The medical director of the Nightingale Hospital in Harrogate says people should be "very concerned" about the rise in coronavirus cases across Yorkshire.

    Dr Yvette Oade said: "I think people should be very concerned.

    "Infection rates in Yorkshire are one of the highest in the country and we've seen hospital admissions rising quickly over the past two weeks, so everybody needs to do their bit."

    Dr Oade added: "You only draw on your insurance policies when things have not worked to plan.

    "Right now the hospital isn't needed, our colleagues are doing a great job around the region."

    Witnesses are being sought after a 64-year-old man was found with "serious injuries" by the side of a road in Leeds.

    The man was taken to hospital after being found in a layby on the northbound carriageway of Scott Hall Road, near the junction with Sholebroke Mount, at 22:45 on Saturday.

    The man had been drinking with friends and had been dropped off at his home in Moortown at about 22:00, but was later found in Scott Hall Road, say police.

    Officers say they are considering the possibility the man was involved in a road traffic collision.

    Det Insp Guy Shackleton, said: “This is a busy main road and even at that time of night we would expect there to have been people about or passing the spot where this man was found.

    “We are keeping an open mind as to how he has come to be injured but clearly we need to establish what has happened to him.”

    Anyone who witnessed anything in Scott Hall Road leading up to when the man was found at about 22:45 is asked to contact police.

    A special policing team has been set up in South Yorkshire to tackle breaches of the coronavirus rules.

    The officers will be sent out when there are reports of the rules being broken after the public requested "targeted action", South Yorkshire Police said.

    The police say they will work with the local councils to decide who should attend the breaches, as some of the rules are best dealt with by the local authority.

    People who host illegal social gatherings or ignore self-isolation rules are to be dealt with by police, according to the South Yorkshire force.

    Assistant Ch Con David Hartley said: “We started by focusing our efforts on engagement and education to allow people time to become aware of and understand the rules.

    "This period has now passed and so we must move more swiftly to enforcement for those who blatantly or persistently break the rules.

    “Generally, most people are following the rules, listening to the advice and acting in a sensible manner in order to protect one another.

    "However, we continue to receive reports of blatant and persistent rule-breaking which must be addressed."
