Storm impact less than thought - Doncaster council bosspublished at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2021
Rainfall in Doncaster due to Storm Christoph has had less impact than was expected, the boss of the town's council has said.
Damian Allen, chief executive of Doncaster Council, said: "Because we had notice on Sunday, we worked on a plan to mobilise sandbags.
“Every day we've had 250 to 300 people out and about, as well as a lot volunteers, to help us prepare temporary defences.”
He added: “We were pleased the Met Office gave us an earlier warning, that wasn't the case in 2019 and therefore we didn't have the opportunity to prepare.
“The rain predicted from 06:00 just hasn't materialised in the same way, it's been surges of rain, and it has deferred the impact.”
A total of 61 flood warnings, external - meaning immediate action should be taken as flooding is expected - remain in place in Yorkshire.
There are also 49 flood alerts - meaning flooding is possible, be prepared - in place on the county's rivers.
