A statement issued by the palace just after midday spoke of the Queen's "deep sorrow" following his death at Windsor Castle on Friday morning.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who was the longest-serving consort in British history, had returned to Windsor on 16 March after a month in hospital.

It follows the government's announcement that people in England can start thinking about booking foreign holidays again this summer.

Mr Heapy added: "Following the publication of the framework, we still don't know when we can start to fly, where we can fly to and the availability and cost of testing."

"Because of the continued uncertainty that the framework provides, it is with a heavy heart that we have taken the decision to extend the suspension of flights and holidays up to and including 23 June."

Grant Shapps says a traffic light system with countries graded on their risk will be available in "two or three weeks' time."

On what would've been his 78th birthday Clive Sullivan, the man who broke rugby's racial barrier, is being celebrated today by being featured as the daily Google doodle.

Sullivan played for both Hull FC and Hull Kingston Rovers during his career, and also had spells at Doncaster.

When the 18-year-old Welsh winger joined Hull FC in 1961, there were very few black men in prominent sporting positions.

But scoring a hat-trick in a trial game with the team certainly put Sullivan on the map and he signed a contract the following day.

So began a career that 11 years later, in 1972, would see him raise the Rugby League World Cup trophy as Great Britain captain - the last occasion the trophy was won by any nation other than Australia or New Zealand.

His wife, Rosalyn Sullivan said he broke down barriers in rugby league and in his adopted city of Hull where he had an impact on the "colour thing".

"Comments were made behind our backs but Clive dealt with it in his own way.

"He was very comfortable in his own skin and was very proud of being black and being Welsh.

"He made people understand he was just a person like anyone else. He was very humble."

  10. Stanley's stone snake to become permanent Covid memorialpublished at 10:02 British Summer Time 9 April 2021

A stone snake made by a four-year-old boy during the first coronavirus lockdown at his school in Rotherham is to become a permanent Covid-19 memorial.

Stanley (pictured above), from Ravenfield, started the stone snake on his garden wall in June when his mum suggested he make a snake instead of getting a real one as a pet.

But the stones were stolen overnight last summer and since then hundreds of people have donated rocks - some contacting him from as far away as Hawaii and Australia.

Now the snake is 1,000 stones long and stretches through the village of Ravenfield, with stones donated from South Yorkshire Police, local MP John Healey and artist Joe Scarborough.

Stanley and his mum chose around 100 of the stones for a permanent Covid memorial in a new outdoor learning area planned to be built in the summer.

Until then, it will stay in "pride of place" at the school so children can see it and remember their year of Covid, lockdown and homeschooling, school principal Caroline Coates said.

Stanley's mum said it was "fantastic" the school was going to use Stanley's snake as a lasting memorial.

She said she and Stanley's dad, had had a "really tough year" homeschooling Stanley as well as working hard throughout, but said the family had also had a "really nice" time and Stanley had learned to ride a bike.

"The parish council have been really on it, too. They've paid for a plaque for the memorial, too, and they've also helped arrange a memorial [at Hope Fields in Thrybergh Country Park]."

People working at the Maltby test site near Rotherham came under fire by "local youths" on Tuesday evening, forcing it to close, police said.

Local MP Alexander Stafford described the attack as "an absolute disgrace".

The area around the testing centre at Maltby Leisure Centre had been the subject of two separate dispersal orders to stop young people from gathering and causing anti-social behaviour there, police added.

Mr Stafford, Conservative MP for Rother Valley, said he was "gravely concerned" the walk-in site had been attacked, calling on the police to establish a base at the centre to deter criminals.

"Each time the Maltby testing centre is forced to shut early due to anti-social behaviour, lives have been put at risk as people are unable to get tested locally," he said.

Temporary Insp Rachel Berry, from South Yorkshire Police, said staff and members of the public had been attacked by young people throwing rocks and golf balls.

Insp Berry said: "It is a scary situation. We've taken preventative action around the site. We're taking the matters very seriously."

Parents of young people thought to have been involved had been spoken to and officers were working with schools to identify other offenders, Insp Berry added.

Latus Health, based in Melton, has been accused of "appalling" service over delivery delays by people returning from abroad.

The firm, which is on the government's official list of suppliers, blamed issues caused by the pandemic and postal delays.

People returning to the UK from non-red list countries are required to quarantine for 10 days at home and take two Covid-19 tests - one on day two and another on day eight - before they can leave.

But customers who've ordered through Latus Health have complained of test kits arriving more than a week late.

Joanna Earl, 50, from Wandsworth in London, returned to the UK on 25 March, having been in France with work. She paid Latus £350 to be tested with her husband.

But 13 days on, she said, they were still waiting for the results of second test, which itself arrived 24 hours late.

Dozens of users have joined a Facebook group to complain about the firm, sharing similar experiences.

Latus Health managing director Jack Latus said "pre-bank holiday delivery delays" could occur for various reasons, but issues caused by the pandemic were the main issue.

A Department of Health and Social Care spokesman said: "We carefully monitor any issues raised by the public about private tests and take action where necessary."

Royal Mail said it was working hard to maintain a normal service.
