A man who was jailed for causing the death of his three-year-old son as he raced another car along a motorway in East Yorkshire at speeds in excess of 100mph has lost his bid to overturn his convictions at the Court of Appeal.
Israr Muhammed, from Batley, was given a four-and-a-half-year sentence after losing control of his Honda Civic as he and another motorist, Adam Molloy, drove "like idiots" in the outside lane of the M62 in July 2018.
Dashcam footage (pictured above) showed the two drivers racing at speeds of more than 100mph.
Muhammed's young son, Sayhaan, died from catastrophic head injuries after the car spun across the motorway and hit a tree on an embankment.
The 41-year-old's wife and his daughter, who was 11 at the time, suffered very serious injuries.
Muhammed was sentenced in November for causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and one count of causing death while uninsured.
In May, he took his case to the Court of Appeal, claiming his convictions were unsafe.
His barrister argued Sayhaan's death and the serious injuries Muhammed's wife and daughter suffered were caused by him losing control due to a tyre unexpectedly blowing out, rather than the "competitive driving".
But Lady Justice Macur, sitting with Mrs Justice Yip and Mrs Justice Foster, has dismissed Muhammed's appeals.
She wrote: "We are in no doubt there was evidence from which the jury could conclude that the appellant was driving competitively - that is, at a speed greatly more than the speed limit, and refusing to concede the outer lane of the motorway to the car driven by his co-accused and travelling at an equivalent speed some 10m behind him.
"The jury would be entitled to conclude that the manner of this driving fell far below the standard of a careful and competent driver."

Read MoreA 14-year-old boy who was left badly injured after being attacked by men fighting with machetes in Leeds has been arrested, police say.
The attack happened at about 17:45 on Wednesday in Hudson Road, Harehills, where a group of men were reported to be fighting, according to West Yorkshire Police.
Armed officers were sent to the scene and the teenager was found with injuries to his leg and arm.
He was taken to hospital for treatment and his injuries are said to be serious but not life-threatening.
The 14-year-old was later arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, officers say.
Det Insp Guy Shackleton says: "We'd like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or any part of the circumstances leading up to it or who saw those involved in area.
"This occurred in a busy residential area in the early evening and there will have been people about who saw what happened."
A 44-year-old man died at the scene of the collision in Leeds early on Friday morning.

The Doncaster woman has had a suspected form of gastroparesis, which means her stomach cannot process food and makes her vomit when she tries to eat, since she was 18.
Doctors believe a gastric pacemaker could help her get her life back.
Emma and her family are now hoping to raise £30,000 to fund the treatment which is currently not available on the NHS.
Jo Conchie says she will fight "to ensure our small towns and villages are no longer neglected".
Read MoreA man who tried to kidnap several women in a single day in Rotherham has been jailed for three years.
Shamaz Ali, 30, approached the pedestrians while driving around the town on 24 September 2020.
Sheffield Crown Court had previously heard Ali seemed intoxicated and his behaviour was described as "bizarre".
He pleaded guilty to six charges of attempted kidnap, charges of assault with intent to resist arrest and being over the drink-drive limit.
Ali's lawyer said his client, of Clough Road, Rotherham, had been "given something to drink and was not aware what it was" before the offences.
Ali did not "recall any sinister intent", his lawyer added.
Sentencing Ali on Monday, Judge Paul Thomas QC said it was "difficult to understand [his] behaviour unless there was a strong motivation of an indecent type".
"Clearly you had consumed something, but the manner of ingestion described is unbelievable," he said.
"I therefore sentence on the basis it was deliberate behaviour with an indecent motive."
On Thursday, Judge Thomas ruled there would be no separate penalty for a charge of criminal damage.
