To cope with the challenges of the colder weather, we've compiled a guide troubleshooting your most pressing questions.
How to de-ice your car: Don't pour boiling hot water on your window screen. Instead, the AA says you should start the engine and remain with the car - ensuring the wipers are off to avoid damage - and then turn on the warm air blower on the windscreen. You should also turn on your rear windscreen heater, plus the air con before removing snow with a soft brush then de-icing your car
Risks with heating: Firefighters and safety managers from the charity Electrical Safety First say you should use your heater on a flat surface to ensure it won't fall over
How to keep your baby warm: Use a number of lightweight blankets at night, and layers during the day. Importantly, babies do not need hot rooms at night - a room temperature of between 16-20C (61-68F) is ideal
How to keep pets warm: Veterinary charity PDSA advises giving dogs and cats extra blankets for their beds over the winter months. Raised beds can keep older dogs away from draughts, while cats may like high-up dens
How to dry your washing: Use a dehumidifier, which takes water out of the air. This can be done by running the machine for several hours next to clothes hanging on an airer

Plan your journey home, say fire service
People travelling this afternoon and into the evening should start planning their journeys now, a Yorkshire fire service says.
North Yorkshire Fire and RescueCopyright: North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue
With the amber weather warning now in place across the region, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say people should be prepared for issues on their commute home.
"It is worth noting any journeys you made this morning, may be very different to those you make this afternoon," a spokesperson said.
While some may work from home to avoid travelling, others can't and so the fire service gave the following advice to drivers:
Allow extra time for your journey
Check ahead for any road closures or delays
Pack warm clothing and, if you have one, a sleeping bag and torch, in case you become stranded. A flask with a hot drink, some water and snack are also a good idea.
Keep your phone charged and carry a fully charged battery pack
Ensure you fully remove any snow or ice from your vehicle
Check your wipers and switch off any auto wiper control before turning on the ignition
Check your tyres for adequate tread – poor tyres will not grip when driving on snow and ice
Wear comfortable, dry and suitable footwear – be prepared for leaving the vehicle quickly
Pack sunglasses as these can reduce the glare of low winter sun on the snow

"Heavy snow is likely to cause significant disruption on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning," it said.
The Met Office is warning travel delays on roads are expected with some vehicles possibly becoming stranded.
It said power cuts are likely with some rural communities becoming cut off.

The RAC's Rod Dennis says the company is seeing a 50% increase in breakdowns in the worst-hit areas including in South Yorkshire and Wales.
He says: "Rural routes through central and northern England covered by the Met Office’s amber weather warning are also starting to get difficult to negotiate, and these are areas drivers should avoid if they can."
He adds: "These aren’t conditions anyone wants to be caught out in, so those who have to drive need to be confident on potentially slippery surfaces, have ensured their vehicles are up to the task, and are carrying an emergency breakdown kit so they can stay warm and communicate easily should they get stuck or break down."
Watch: Main roads passable with care
This was the scene this morning in Sheffield as heavy snow fell on higher ground.
East Bank Road was passable but slow, while side streets were blocked because of the snow.
One person was seen abandoning their car to make a delivery by running the rest of the way up the street.
