    Despite some concerns that it could be a distraction to drivers on the nearby inner ring road, chairman of the planning committee Councillor Ted Cassidy said it should attract more visitors to the museum, which is next to de Montfort University’s main campus.

    Councillor Dr Susan Barton, one of two councillors who voted against the plans, said while she had no objection to the image itself, the historic area which includes the Grade One listed Magazine Gateway, doesn’t provide the right context for this mural.

    Team GB women’s hockey team have had a good day in Rio - they beat the London 2012 silver medallists Argentina 3-2. 

    The British women are now guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals.
