Surgeons performing children's heart operations at the Glenfield Hospital in Leicester have come up with a solution that could keep their unit open.
Doctors want other hospitals to refer its patients to Glenfield's congenital heart unit rather than other centres around the country.
I've spoken to Claire Clark from Thurlby in Lincolnshire - she chose Glenfield Hospital for her two-year-old daughter over Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Peterborough City Hospital said most of its patients with congential heart disease are seen in London.
The BBC has also discovered that Glenfield's waiting list of 14 is shorter than the other centres which range from 159 patients at Great Ormond Street to 30 at Leeds General Infirmary.
The unit is under threat as part of a national NHS review of the service .

The £7.5m St Luke's Treatment Centre brings together services including the minor injuries unit and medical centre.
It's hoped patients can be treated locally without having to travel further afield .
