The main purpose of the visit is the Royal Maundy Service.
The service has been hosted in every cathedral across the country during the Queen’s reign - apart from Leicester. We are the last city to host it.
Maundy Thursday is generally the Thursday before Easter and is remembered by Christians as the day of the Last Supper.
The word "maundy" comes from the command (mandate) given by Christ at the Last Supper, that we should love one another.
Part of the service involves the distribution of "Maundy money". It's given to senior citizens that have done service to their community.
The coins are made especially for the celebration and are inside red and white purses.
The number of people to receive them is reflected by the age of the monarch. As the Queen is due to turn 91 later this month, there will be 91 male and 91 female recipients today.

Let me tell you a bit more about the Queen's itinerary for her day in Leicester...
She'll be driven to Leicester Cathedral via Humberstone Gate West, High Street and Jubilee Square.
The Maundy Thursday service is then expected to start at 11:00 and will last one hour.
Following the service the Queen will attend a lunch in the Grand Hall at St Martin's House.
Among those sharing a table with her will be Sir Alec Jeffreys (the man behind DNA profiling).
