Thousands of ceramic poppies, made famous after they went on display at the Tower of London in 2014, have gone on show in Derby.

Part of the display, known as the Weeping Window, is now in place at the Silk Mill and will be on show until 23 July.

"I think there is something about how this talks to the working heritage of the city," designer Tom Piper told BBC Radio Derby.

"It was the working people of the city who went out and fought... so I like the fact we're in a relationship with an industrial building."

The display also marks something of a homecoming as they were made in the city by Paul Cummins.

A new project will bring faces from Clifton in Nottingham to the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Photographer Katherine Green is putting together an exhibition on the estate's social history and is working with students from Farnborough Academy to collect pictures and documents.

Ms Green said: "I am really interested in communities, particularly communities where the memory of that community goes back to the beginning."

"Clifton was built in the early 1950s, so there are still residents in Clifton who were the first residents and what I find fascinating is, with these planned communities, there was no sense of planning for social activities.

"There were park spaces built, but there weren't things like community centres or churches, or meeting places."

The project is part of Creative Connections, a partnership between National Portrait Gallery, London, Nottingham Contemporary and The Farnborough Academy, Clifton.
