  12. Open letter urges MP to stop criticising Jeremy Corbynpublished at 10:26 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

    Kevin Stanley
    Reporter, BBC Radio Nottingham

More than 400 members of the Labour Party have told the Nottingham East MP Chris Leslie to stop publicly criticising Jeremy Corbyn.

Grassroots supporters, local councillors and political activists are among those who've signed an open letter urging Mr Leslie to confine his personal views to discussions within the party.

It's after he told Radio 4 on Saturday that, despite the gains, Labour "can't pretend" it won the election...

Mr Leslie was re-elected in Nottingham East for the Labour Party with a increased majority of over 19,000.

Nottingham City Councillor Adele Williams is one of the signatories.

She said: "We got the biggest swing to Labour since Clement Attlee. Once Jeremy Corbyn had a fair hearing in the media throughout the election campagin, we were able to achieve that swing. If you look at the polls now we are on 45% and the Tories are on 39%.

"What we would like to see is a clear endorsement from Chris because he is a Labour MP and in fact the increase majority that we see in seats like Nottingham East is in very large part to do with inspiration that Jeremy Corbyn has offered."

    Quote Message

Getting the win tonight would have been the icing on the cake and it would’ve been nice to be recognised a little bit more for being league winners and for being so consistent. But that’s how finals netball works. It’s a one-off game and we just didn’t quite match up. I’m still so proud of the squad this year in all that we’ve achieved.”
