    A prisoner who's serving time for robbery and possession of an offensive weapon, has absconded from prison in Derbyshire.

    Jamie Subryan, 38, left Sudbury open prison yesterday, Derbyshire Police have said.

    Subryan is described as mixed race, 5ft 4ins tall, stocky with brown eyes and shaved black hair.

    He speaks with a London accent and has links to the Harrow, London.

    A man from Leicester, who's registered blind, has said his guide dog was hit by an Uber Eats cyclist.

    Ben Dixon and his dog, Erwin, were hit on the pavement near Castle Park on Sunday morning.

    Erwin wasn't badly injured but Ben said it was "frightening".

    "He was going quite fast and he clipped the front of Erwin's nose and he went straight over the front of me," he said.

    "I called to him but he didn't stop. He ignored that he'd injured my dog."

    An Uber Eats spokesman said: "We were shocked to learn of this unacceptable incident and are investigating to identify the courier.

    "We have been in contact with the person affected and have offered our support for both him and the guide dog."

    A Nottingham prisoner has died in custody, the Ministry of Justice has confirmed.

    Brett Lowe, 43, died in custody on Wednesday.

    “Our condolences are with Mr Lowe’s family and friends," a spokesman said.

    “The police are currently investigating so it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

    A 72-year-old man, from Oakham, who was arrested in relation to a number of "inappropriate" comments made on social media, has been released under investigation.

    The force said the comments were "reported as being inappropriate in their nature" on Monday.

    Yesterday we reported Leicestershire Police were investigating after Rutland councillor Richard Alderman posted racist comments made on Facebook.

    However, the force would not confirm whether the arrest was related to this case.

    Two backpackers who tried to save Mia Ayliffe-Chung, from Derbyshire, when she was attacked and killed in an Australian hostel have been given bravery awards.

    Thomas Jackson, from Cheshire, was stabbed numerous times after he and Daniel Richards, from Wales, tried to defend the 20-year-old and calm down her attacker.

    They've been given Queen's Gallantry Medals.

    Mr Jackson (pictured) died six days later. His family said that while the award was "a bittersweet moment", the 30-year-old "will always be our hero".

    Twenty people in total have been approved by the Queen for awards to recognise their "outstanding bravery", including heroes of the London Bridge terror attack.

    A newly-qualified volunteer police officer from Chesterfield decided to make his attestation ceremony even more special by getting down on one knee to propose to his watching girlfriend.

    Owen Palfreyman, 22, said he had decided about a month ago he was going to ask 23-year-old Jess Goodman to marry him during the ceremony.

    There were cheers from the 16 other special constables and their family and friends at Derbyshire Constabulary's headquarters when Miss Goodman said yes.

    Mr Palfreyman said: "It went absolutely perfectly. The next thing we have to do is organise an engagement party – which we are both really excited about!”
