    A man has been jailed for life after being found guilty of the attempted murder of his housemate in South Yorkshire.

    Grant Stanfield, 26, originally from Harworth in Nottinghamshire, stabbed his housemate last year, leaving him with severe injuries to his neck and back.

    The attack happened on John Street, Thurnscoe, in November 2017.

    Stanfield left the scene with the victim's phone, stopping him calling for help, a court heard.

    He was eventually stopped on the A1 and arrested by South Yorkshire Police.

    He was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday and will serve a minimum of 12 years.

    Police are concerned for a schoolboy who has been missing since yesterday morning.

    Owen Prosser, 13, was reported missing from Kirkby in Ashfield at 09:00 on 21 November.

    He is described as white, slim and around 5ft tall with short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a navy Lacoste top and bottoms.

    England and Leicester Tigers centre Manu Tuilagi is set to make his long-anticipated Test return after being named on the bench to face Australia at Twickenham on Saturday.

    Tuilagi's only England appearance since 2014 was as a 63rd-minute replacement against Wales in March 2016.

    Fellow Tigers wing Jonny May and scrum-half Ben Youngs are set to start, while fly-half George Ford joins him on the bench.

    More than 500 jobs are at risk at a Nottinghamshire-based logistics company as it faces administration.

    Prolog handles goods from its warehouses at Sherwood Park, in Annesley, and its clients include British Airways, Interflora, and Mothercare.

    The firm is expected to go into administration next week.

    The appointed administrators would not go into any detail about why the finance for Prolog has been withdrawn, but said their "number one priority is to find a buyer so that all staff can keep their jobs".

    The number of young people suffering from a mental health disorder has risen in the East Midlands from 1 in 10, to 1 in 8, new figures show.

    The information from NHS Digital is the first time the mental wellbeing of children has been recorded in more than a decade.

    Kimberley School, in Nottinghamshire, is running an NHS pilot to provide better mental health support for pupils and has seen its dedicated team increase from two people to seven to cope with demand.

    Teacher Gemma Blacow said social media makes a big difference to the emotional wellbeing of students.

    "The social media side of things is having a massive influence on them and just not being able to escape any of it," she said.

    "It's all about how you look, what you do, who you're hanging around with and what you like."

    A Leicestershire teacher has been banned from the profession, external after a disciplinary panel found him guilty of assaulting a pupil.

    The hearing took place after Simon Thatcher, a science teacher at Bushloe High School - now called Wigston Academy - was accused of pushing a pupil during a confrontation while standing in for a music lesson in July 2016.

    Witnesses said after being pushed by the teacher, the boy hit his head on either a locker, cabinet or shelf. He was found on the floor crying by another teacher.

    Mr Thatcher was suspended in August 2016 and resigned from his post two months later.

    After listening to witness evidence, the panel concluded Mr Thatcher - who did not attend the hearing - was guilty of unacceptable professional conduct and should receive a prohibition order, which he can apply to have reviewed in three years.

    A 40-year-old Ilkeston man is due to appear in court today charged with the theft of a Mercedes, according to police.

    Alan Jackson, of Broomhill Avenue, was arrested in connection with a burglary in Leake Road, Gotham, on 30 September, where a number of items including the keys to a Mercedes car were taken.

    He has been charged with the theft of a Mercedes and a Ford Focus at the same address a month later, as well as the theft of registration plates from a BMW in the same road.

    Mr Jackson also faces charges of failing to stop when directed by a police officer in Wollaton Vale on 27 October.

    He is set to appear in Nottingham Magistrate's Court this afternoon.

    A man and a woman have died following a collision in Rutland yesterday evening.

    They died at the scene of the two-car crash on the A1 in Tinwell at 17:10 after the Citroen C3 they were in collided with a Kia Sportage.

    The driver of the Kia sustained minor injuries and was taken to Peterborough Hospital for treatment.

    The A1 was closed for 10 hours while police carried out enquiries and opened in the early hours of this morning.

    A care unit for people nearing the end of their lives is to be built at Treetops Hospice in Risley.

    The new building - which will include space for 12 residents, a "multi-faith contemplation space" and a visitor lounge - was given the go-ahead by Erewash Borough Council last night.

    The unit will have a grass covering to give the impression the field it's built in has been lifted up and placed on top.

    Hospice bosses said the new facility would help to ease pressure on hospitals in the area.

    A Nottingham man says it took the RAC vehicle recovery firm 21 hours to get him home following a breakdown.

    Mohammed Aliaus was delivering a custom Porsche 986 from Essex back to his home in Nottingham but a tyre problem meant he needed to be picked up.

    He initially broke down at 17:30 last Wednesday but didn't get home until 14:30 the following day due to wrong recovery vehicles being sent, delays and location mix-ups.

    Mr Aliaus said: "The annoying part was they kept promising, saying we'll be back in touch, giving me times and then changing them.

    "I was absolutely shattered. I was in the middle of nowhere at an empty petrol station with nowhere to go.

    “They take money for a premium. They’re supposed to provide a service.

    "I have a back problem and sitting in the car has aggravated that.

    “I’ve been in a lot of pain since the weekend so I saw the GP yesterday and they said waiting in the car obviously hasn’t done me any favours."

    Staff and patients have been warned there are major delays entering and exiting the Royal Derby Hospital after a pedestrian was hit by a car.

    The large roundabout near the hospital entrance remains closed after the crash which took place on Uttoxeter New Road just before 10:00.

    Police searching for a woman who has gone missing with her five-year-old son say they have found her car.

    Emma Sillett, 41, from Dinting, near Glossop, was last seen on Tuesday at a McDonald's in Hattersley. Her son's name is Jenson Spellman.

    Derbyshire Police said her Peugeot 308 was found near the Valehouse reservoir, external, near Tintwhistle and further searches were taking place in the area.

    Passengers have complained about a timetable shake-up that means there will be no buses stopping at their village during the busy morning period.

    Changes to the 153 route between Leicester and Market Bosworth mean no buses will stop in Newbold Verdon between 06:18 and 07:48.

    Julie Bailey, a civil servant who has caught the 07:05 bus for the past 19 years, said she had "no idea" what she'll do.

    She said: "If I catch the earlier bus I'll have to get up at quarter to five in the morning and then walk through the city centre in the dark to get to work and I don't feel safe doing that, if I get the later bus I'll be late for work."

    Arriva said the timetable had been revised to "match customer demand and ensure it remains financially sustainable".

    A pedestrian who was hit by a car in Derby this morning has been taken to hospital.

    The pedestrian was hit just before 10:00 in Uttoxeter New Road, which remains closed from the junction of Kingsway and Manor Road up to the roundabout.

    A spokeswoman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We sent a paramedic in an ambulance car, a doctor in a car and a crewed ambulance, and one patient was taken to Royal Derby Hospital."
