    Students are being urged to ensure they are vaccinated due to an outbreak of mumps at Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham.

    A spokesperson for the University of Nottingham said: "We have been alerted to a number of suspected cases of mumps and are working closely with Public Health England to monitor the situation.

    A total of 40 cases have been confirmed so far.

    A man who was arrested after a security guard was injured at a supermarket in Thurmaston has been released on bail.

    Police were called to the Asda store at 14:30 yesterday to reports that a member of security staff was injured while trying to stop a suspected shoplifter.

    A 42-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm without intent, has been released on conditional bail and police inquiries are continuing.

    A fire at a caravan park which destroyed 40 caravans and damaged 40 more is now out, firefighters said.

    Several fire engines were called out at around 5:30 to Ainmoor Grange Caravan Park in Stretton near Clay Cross in Derbyshire.

    They and the police are now starting an investigation in to the cause.

    There are seven miles of traffic on the M1 near Leicester after a crash this morning, according to Highways England.

    Two lanes were closed on the motorway southbound between J21 and J21a earlier but one has since been reopened.

    A large fire has destroyed 40 caravans and 40 more were damaged at a caravan park this morning, the fire service said.

    Fire crews were called out at 06.20 to Ainmoor Grange Caravan Park at Stretton near Clay Cross in Derbyshire.

    Incident commander John Cooke said it started in the storage yard and added: "We made an aggressive attack, created a fire break and by doing that managed to contain the area to the place of origin.

    "Obviously there has been significant damage to the whole campsite."

    An investigation into the cause is under way. No injuries have been reported.

    It's the last week that people in Leicestershire can have a say on a special educational needs initiative.

    Plans to spend up to £30M to develop new provisions for children and young people with special education and disability needs will be considered on Friday.

    Proposals include expanding the current special schools and creating 15 new SEND units for mainstream schools.

    A crash on the M1 this morning near Leicester has closed two lanes and is slowing down traffic.

    It happened on the motorway southbound between junctions 22 and 21.

    Highways England does not expect it to clear until after rush hour.

    Firefighters are tackling a blaze involving caravans in Derbyshire.

    They were called out at around 6:20 to Stretton, near Clay Cross, this morning and police also attended. They said they have not had to close any roads.

    According to one eyewitness the fire was in one of the storage caravans and the fire service confirmed no-one is hurt.

    Residents are being warned to keep doors and windows closed.

    A Derbyshire MP is calling for a ban on sky lanterns today.

    Ruth George, MP for High Peak, is due to push for the ban in parliament.

    There are fears the lanterns can cause fires on dry moorland. The Peak District National Park supports the idea of a ban.
