    A Nottingham woman has filmed a documentary about the impact on her family after the murder of her brother.

    Chanell Wallace was 11 when her brother Daniel was stabbed to death in Radford in 2006.

    "Life After My Brother's Murder" was released last night on BBC Three, and follows her as she goes through the process of putting together a victim impact statement ahead of his killer's parole hearing.

    She has also written a letter to his killer in which she describes how he "stole my brother's life and cheated us out of our futures".

    Police officers will be hopping on buses in Derbyshire this week as part of a crackdown on people using their mobile phones at the wheel.

    The force say they will be doing this so they can get a "better view" of motorists on their phones.

    Officers will also be carrying out roadside checks and using an unmarked lorry to check on drivers.

    In a statement, Derbyshire Police said: "This campaign is just one part of our efforts to keep roads across Derbyshire safe for all road users. We do it all year round anyway - we're just having an increased focus on it for a few weeks."

    Notts County have reported a number of people for abusive social media comments.

    The football club say one person has been reported to police and legal advice is being sought in relation to other comments.

    In a statement, the club said: "Notts officials, players and staff have recently been subjected to an increased number of comments which overstep the line between fair criticism and vile, threatening abuse, many of which have a knock-on effect on the families of those targeted.

    "This can not and will not be tolerated."

    A number of people have been handed indefinite bans by the club.

    Just last week, Leicester Tigers reported online abuse of their players to the police.

    The fire service has issued a warning about throwing cigarettes from cars after a fire near the M1.

    A large area of grass along the M1 caught fire on Saturday at around 15:45 between Junctions 21 and 21a northbound near Leicester.

    Firefighters believe it was started by cigarette thrown from a car.

    The fire service received 24 emergency calls about the fire, which spread to an area of around 10x10m.

    In a statement, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Please think about discarding cigarettes, especially as the weather is getting warmer and things dry out."

    A business in the village is running a dial-a-roast offering to deliver a full Sunday dinner to homes in Nottinghamshire.

    It's proved so successful, they have already turned away customers and is now looking to expand.

    One woman, Katie, drove all the way from Bulwell to collect hers as she lives outside of the delivery area.

    She said: "It’s something different to always cooking for the kids on Sunday and washing up all the pots and pans.

    "It looked absolutely delicious, so we thought 'why not?'"

    A 25-year-old man has been charged with assault after a prison guard had his throat cut at HMP Nottingham.

    The guard, 23, was taken to hospital and required 17 stitches following the attack at around 10:00 yesterday.

    Michael McKenna, of HMP Nottingham, has been charged with attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm and a racially aggravated public order offence and is due before Nottingham Magistrates' Court this morning.

    A road closed by a burst water main in Derby city centre has temporarily reopened.

    King Street was flooded on Friday when a 24in pipe ruptured, turning streets into rivers and forcing guests at the Jury's Inn to leave via a ladder.

    Severn Trent Water opened the road this morning for rush hour and will close it again at 11:00 to complete the resurfacing.

    Sarah-Jayne O'Kane, spokeswoman for the firm, said: "We do still need to put the top surface on, the white lines and the anti-skid surface to make it completely back to normal... Everything will be done by later this evening."

  13. Peaty rules out double gold at Tokyo 2020published at 08:31 British Summer Time 15 April 2019

    Olympic champion Adam Peaty has ruled out a bid for two individual gold medals at Tokyo 2020 and will focus on defending his 100m breaststroke title.

    As the 50m event is not in the Olympic programme, Peaty had suggested he could boost his medal prospects by adding the 200m to his schedule.

    But he has now decided against that and will not race the event at this week's British Championships.

    "I want to focus on pushing the boundaries in the 100m," Peaty said.

    Peaty, 24, was formerly a member of City of Derby Swimming Club and now trains at Loughborough University.

    A prison officer had his throat cut by an inmate at HMP Nottingham, the Ministry of Justice has said.

    Union officials said it was an "unprovoked attack" by a prisoner with a razor blade.

    The officer, who was assaulted at about 10:00 yesterday, needed 17 stitches. He has since been discharged from hospital.

    The prison's governor said his thoughts were with the officer, his family and "the team dealing with the fallout."

    Events will be held in Nottingham later today to mark 30 years since the Hillsborough disaster.

    A minute's silence will be held outside Nottingham's Council House at 15:06 today, the time the match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest was stopped.

    Overcrowding on the terraces at the FA Cup semi-final in Sheffield led to a crush which killed 96 fans in 1989.

    A book of condolence will be opened and the building lit in red and white, the colours of both Liverpool and Forest.
