Officers in Nottinghamshire are supporting a two-week campaign to reduce the number of rider deaths on roads.

The "2 Wheels" campaign, led by the National Police Chief’s Council, started on 5 April and aims to educate riders and drivers on how to improve behaviour on the road.

Nottinghamshire Police said, so far in 2021, two motorcyclists have died in crashes in the county.

At the beginning of March, there was a collision between a motorbike and a lorry in West Stockwith and a man died at the scene.

On 4 April, a 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after his bike left the road on the A634 near Oldcotes.

Officers said the most common faults which have caused the bike crashes in Nottinghamshire included defective tyres, brakes, and lights or indicators.

During the campaign, police are looking out for motorbike and motorcycle maintenance, and checking protective gear and rider behaviour.

Det Insp Clare Gibson said: “Lockdown will no doubt mean that many riders will not have been on their bikes in months, and this is why we’re supporting this campaign to make sure people are safe when they’re getting back out on their two wheels."

In a media briefing on Friday, Nottinghamshire health bosses attributed the rise to outbreaks in the town's schools.

They added that lower infection rates nationwide meant a few new cases in one area could cause a sudden rise up the chart.

    BBC News

Police have put in place a 24-hour dispersal order around Nottingham after dozens of car cruisers turned up at East Midlands Parkway for the second time in a month.

Up to 300 vehicles were reported to have descended on the railway station's car park last night, and Nottinghamshire Police said about 50 motorists had already been moved on after congregating around a cinema car park in Lenton.

The order has been in place since 21:13 on Sunday across the city of Nottingham, and the A453 including Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station and slip roads.

Officers were called to the A453 earlier this month after receiving similar reports, and the force said it "will seize vehicles and issue fines under coronavirus legislation" if it is deemed "necessary".

People were found hiding in the laundry room, kitchen areas, bathrooms, and lifts when officers arrived, police added.

Supt Paul Burrows, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We must remember that whilst there is light at the end of the tunnel and lockdown restrictions are easing slowly but surely, we must still familiarise ourselves and abide by the regulations that are in place.

"Sadly, a small minority of people chose to blatantly disregard the rules and put people at risk.

"Our officers continue to engage, explain and encourage people to follow the rules in the first instance, and enforce when it is necessary and appropriate."

Eight trees were vandalised within weeks of them being planted but they survived, however this time the damage is worse.

Wilford Community Group said: "Three of the more prominent trees alongside Iremongers Pond have been vandalised beyond any hope of survival.

A man attacked his ex and smashed her car window because he was enraged over a Facebook "like", police have said.

Steven Dobb, 39, and his ex met to try to rekindle their relationship, officers said.

But an argument broke out at his home because he was angered by somebody liking her Facebook picture.

She tried to leave but Dobb took her phone and threw it to the floor.

He then grabbed her wrist and neck, pushed her to the floor and kicked her in the back.

She managed to escape but he followed, punching her car windows and throwing a gas canister at the bonnet.

Dobb, of Great North Road in Markham Moor, Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to common assault and two counts of criminal damage.
