Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced that zoos and outdoor attractions can reopen from next week as Covid-19 restrictions are eased.

But bosses at Skegness Natureland Seal Sanctuary say they weren't expecting to be allowed to reopen until next month.

Matt Yeadon, director at Natureland, says he wishes more - and earlier - notice had been given of the move.

    Quote Message

It would have been nice if we had indicators throughout the lockdown. We feel like we've been shunted to the bottom of the pile of priorities...At least we're being recognised and acknowledged that we're struggling."

Lincolnshire Police say a man walked into the Premier Express Store, in Newmarket, Louth, on 31 May, carrying the weapon and demanded staff hand over money.

However, they said he was challenged by shop workers and left empty handed before leaving the scene with another man in a red Fiat Punto.

The force said a 40-year-old man has been charged with attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Last week a 44-year-old man was charged with attempted robbery.

Both men are being held in police custody.

  3. Decision day for coronavirus-free Grantham Hospital planpublished at 09:00 British Summer Time 11 June 2020

A decison could be made later on whether to turn Grantham Hospital into a coronavirus-free site.

    Grantham Hospital A&E

If given the go-ahead, it would mean a temporary end to all emergency admissions to the hospital, with the existing A&E unit there turned into a 24-hour urgent walk-in centre.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS trust (ULHT) says if the hospital becomes a Covid-19 free site, removing emergency admissions will be necessary to control the risk of infection.

Most cancer care and elective surgery would then be moved to Grantham Hospital from Lincoln and Boston, according to ULHT.

Two Lincolnshire MPs have expressed concern about the possible impact of the plans.

Grantham and Stamford MP Gareth Davies and Dr Caroline Johnson, MP for Sleaford and North Hykeham, said earlier this week they couldn't understand the need to reduce emergency provision and remove acute beds from the site.

  4. MPs come out against Grantham Hospital planspublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 10 June 2020

Two Lincolnshire MPs have expressed concern about the possible impact of plans to turn Grantham hospital into a coronavirus-free site.

    Grantham

The proposal would see the daytime A&E unit at Grantham Hospital temporarily changed into a 24-hour Urgent Care Centre.

The plans will minimise transmission of Covid-19, helping to protect patients and staff, according to United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust.

However, Grantham and Stamford MP, Gareth Davies, and Dr Caroline Johnson, who represents Sleaford and North Hykeham, say they don't understand the need to reduce emergency provision and remove acute beds from the site.

Boris Johnson is expected to outline the latest step in the easing of the coronavirus lockdown at today's daily briefing, and is due to announce that zoos, safari parks and drive-in cinemas can once again welcome members of the public.

Writing on Facebook, Messingham Zoo said they were still awaiting confirmation of the official guidelines but said it was "a step in the right direction".

The Ark Wildlife Park, at Stickney, said it was working to finalise the necessary measures to reopen, but said: "We look forward to welcoming you all back very soon, we and the animals have missed you all"

However, Woodside Wildlife Park, near Langworth, said it would remain closed until early July.

In a statement it said: "We have two tropical houses and many other beautiful indoor spaces that must remain closed.

"Many of our visitors are children, elderly or vulnerable. Therefore morally and for the safety of our animals, staff and guests we will remain closed until early July."

  8. Tourette’s sufferer's 'happiness' after treatment studypublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 10 June 2020

A man from Lincolnshire who's living with Tourette’s syndrome says he "wanted to cry with happiness" after a possible treatment was found for the condition.

Charlie Barnett, 21, from Spalding, took part in a University of Nottingham study which looked at how uncontrollable tics could be managed using electrical pulses.

The study found the amount and severity of Charlie’s noises and twitches decreased as he was given rhythmic electrical pulses to his wrist.

“At the first session of the stimulation, I felt as if finally, a new treatment may have been found to free myself from my Tourette’s and wanted to cry with happiness,” he said:

Officers were called to the building, in the Harvey Close area, at about 16:20 yesterday afternoon following reports a boy had fallen and was seriously hurt.

The air ambulance attended and the teenager was taken to hospital, according to police.

Det Insp Mhairi Boulton said: "We know the victim was with other young people at the time and we are investigating, but what happened is not thought to be suspicious at this time.

"We do however need to urgently hear anyone that has information and has not yet spoken with us. Please make contact as soon as possible."

Hospital bosses say action is needed to stop the numbers rising further and it's one of the reasons why they want to make Grantham Hospital free of patients with coronavirus.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust is considering temporarily changing the hospital's A&E to a 24-hour Urgent Care Centre.

They say that will mean the site can become a so-called "green" zone - a Covid-19-free area meaning surgery and chemotherapy can be carried out there.

Andrew Morgan, chief executive of United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust, says the number of cancer patients waiting for treatment is a situation which "clearly needs to change".

"What we can't do is let those lists is continue to run away from us," he adds.

  17. Hospital campaigners' fears over future of Grantham A&Epublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 9 June 2020

Plans to temporarily replace A&E services in Grantham with an Urgent Care Centre have been met with alarm by campaigners who fear the move will become permanent.

    Grantham HospitalImage source, Google

United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust is considering changing the A&E to a 24-hour Urgent Care Centre so the hospital can become a Covid-free "green" site for surgery and chemotherapy.

The trust says the change from an A&E to an Urgent Care Centre would be a temporary measure during the coronavirus emergency.

Grantham Hospital's A&E department is currently open between 08:00 and 18:30 every day.

Melissa Darcy, a campaigner from the Fighting 4 Life group, says: "We're not getting our A&E back, but we're getting a further downgrading."

They are just using the coronavirus situation to their advantage, which I think is just disgraceful."

    Sincil Bank

A final decision about whether there will be any more matches played in League 1's regular season is due later.

It is almost three months since elite football in England was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.

A number of resolutions have been put forward, with the likelihood that the season will be ended and league positions decided on a points-per-game basis.

This would leave the Imps as they are now in a mid-table position.

Clubs will also vote on whether to maintain the promotion, play-offs and relegation in each division.

Years One, Six and Reception classes returned to the classroom on Monday 1 June.

Since then two school staff have been confirmed positive, while two results have come back negative and eight are still waiting, according to Lincolnshire County Council.

The affected schools are in Lincoln, Boston, Gainsborough and Grantham.

Two Lincoln schools have already confirmed cases, with one closing completely and the other sending a "bubble" of classmates and teachers home.

On Friday, Bishop King Church of England primary school closed after a member of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

On Monday, St Faith & St Martin Church of England Junior School sent one of its "bubbles" of six pupils home after the parent of one of its students tested positive.

Derek Ward, director of public health at Lincolnshire County Council, said the authority had been supporting head teachers with infectious diseases “for a long time”.

He explained that schools do not have to close if they treat a class as a "bubble" or "family unit".
