About 100,000 people are estimated to have visited Lincoln over the past week to see the imaginative costumes and events.

But organisers say they're a victim of their own success because it's grown too large to for them to cover costs of stewarding the event.

We really need some financial support and some partners that are willing to come on board, sponsors even, to give us a chance to actually move it to the next level and make it the event the city deserves and we want to deliver."

There are plans for a bypass around Horncastle, one of the major pinch-points for coastal commuters (pictured), but "substantial thought" needs to be given before the proposals get the green light, according to Lincolnshire County Council.

It's hoped a plan to finally begin constructing the bypass will be in place by spring next year.

It's a gorgeous market town, but the roads and the infrastructure there is medieval. It's just not designed to cope with this much traffic."
