    A woman who had to abandon her cat after her home was flooded following heavy rain has been reunited with her pet.

    Jean Hart was evacuated last night from her home in Wainfleet, near Skegness, and had been unable to return to collect her cat, Aurora, and tortoise, Mr T, due to the amount of floodwater.

    Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue had offered to rescue the pets but Jean's husband, Kevin, had already saved them, walking through waist-high water to reach them.

    Mr Hart joked it was worth more than his life not to go for the cat, and an emotional Jean said she would never be cross with her husband again.

    Mr T remains in the house but is safe.

    Jean was evacuated last night from her home near Skegness and has been unable to return to collect her pets due to the amount of floodwater.

    Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue offered to help rescue the cat, Aurora, and Mr T the tortoise who are both stranded in a garage.

    Emergency services are to rescue a tortoise called Mr T which was left on a shelf in a garage in Wainfleet after its owner was evacuated last night due to flooding.

    A pet cat, Aurora, is also in the property.

    A woman living in Wainfleet says she "cried all night" after being evacuated from her home due to flooding last night.

    Jean Hart was evacuated from her home and had to leave her cat and tortoise behind and can't currently return to check on them.

    Jean, who has lived in Wainfleet for 40 years, says it's the worst flooding she has ever seen.

    "To see our house underwater is absolutely horrendous," she says.

    This is the latest picture from Wainfleet as the River Steeping continues to rise due to recent heavy rain.

    Flooding continues to affect several parts of Lincolnshire, with Wainfleet particularly hard-hit at the moment and a flood warning still in place for the area, external.

    The rising river levels have already caused flooding of low-lying land and roads.

    Due to the continued rising of the river, properties are expected to be affected, the government's flood information service warns.

    Lincolnshire Police say these roads are currently closed due to flooding:

    • Bank Street, Horncastle
    • A158 between Horncastle and Gunby roundabout
    • Blackwell Row, Roughton Road, Kirkby-on-Bain
    • Raithby Road, Spilsby
    • Thorpe Road, Tattershall Thorpe (near the Bluebell Inn)
    • St Peter's Avenue, Lincoln

    With flooding continuing to affect several areas in Lincolnshire this morning, people are being asked to make sure they look out for each other.

    A number of flood warnings remain in place across the county and several roads are closed due to excess surface water.

    Lincolnshire's Emergency Planning officer, Ian Reed, says it's a good time for people to "be a good neighbour".

    "If you've got elderly neighbours - people who might need more assistance should there be an incident in that area, please check on them.

    "But, above all, keep yourself safe and listen to the advice of those agencies. They're there to help you in the aftermath of any incident," Mr Reed adds.

    Heavy rain overnight is causing further disruption for parts of Lincolnshire this morning.

    Several flood warnings are in place across the county, including the River Steeping in Wainfleet All Saints and the River Witham in North Kesteven.

    Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue says that overnight its crews dealt with more than 30 calls to assist residents concerned about flood water.

    Meanwhile a number of roads are closed because of excess surface water, including the A158 between Horncastle and Gunby roundabout and the road through Kirkby on Bain.

    There are also no rail services been Skegness and Boston.

    Skegness Grammar School is once again shut to all pupils except those taking GCSE and A-level exams.
