A man in his 30s was arrested this morning in the Monks Road area of the city on suspicion of intent to supply a Class B drug known as "mamba", as well as possessing a firearm.

Meanwhile, a woman, also in her 30s, was arrested on suspicion of intent to supply a Class C drug.

Both remain in police custody.

It comes as Lincolnshire Police revealed 250 people had been arrestted since a new task force was established to deal with Lincoln's drug problems.

The police had been criticised for allowing Lincoln to become a hotbed for people abusing "spice", the family of synthetic drugs which includes "mamba".

Police in Boston are now appealing for witnesses to a crash in the town centre which led to a woman's death.

The victim, a pedestrian in her 40s, was seriously injured after a car crashed into the window of Specsavers this afternoon.

The driver of the car which crashed into the shop window, a woman in her 80s, has been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The car is understood to have reversed into the shop window on Wide Bargate at about 14:30, smashing the glass.

The car was involved in a collision with the woman pedestrian, police have confirmed.

The area remains cordoned off while police investigate the circumstances and drivers are being warned to avoid the area.

First pictures have emerged from the scene of a crash in Boston town centre, which saw a car smash into a Specsavers store.

A shopworker nearby has told the BBC the crash, on Wide Bargate, was preceded by several pedestrians shouting and then there was "a large bang".

Sam, who works at nearby charity shop Sense, says the car completely smashed one of the windows of the shop after reversing directly into it.

Several people have been injured as a result of the accident involving a woman in her 80s which happened in front of Specsavers on Wide Bargate, police say.

The air ambulance is from Magpas, whose crews fly to emergencies across Bedfordshire, Norfolk, Lincolnshire and other counties.

Two ambulances and a police car are also at the scene, eyewitnesses say.

Hugh Wheeler was found with a stab wound in the village of Thurlby on 29 May.

Susan Wheeler, 62, of The Causeway, Thurlby, appeared at Lincoln Crown Court this morning, and denied trying to murder Mr Wheeler.

She was granted conditional bail and the case has been adjourned for a trial next February.

Changes to a school uniform at a Lincolnshire school are being introduced partly to make skirts more difficult to roll up.

William Farr Secondary School, in Welton, near Lincoln, has introduced a new pleated skirt to try and end the age old quest to make your skirt more fashionable by folding it up around your waist.

The design of the new skirts makes it look odd when rolled up, which head teachers hope will deter rebellious students.

A tennis coach from Grantham says the introduction of a competition for Quad wheelchair tennis at this year's Wimbledon will encourage others to take up the sport.

Quad tennis players have substantial loss of function in at least one upper limb.

Last year, the All England Club held an exhibition event for Quad tennis, but this time round there'll be a competitive event for tennis players who use wheelchairs for the very first time.

Paul Singleton (pictured), who coaches at Grantham Tennis club, says having Quad tennis on TV increases sponsorship and allows more people to have the opportunity to take up the sport on a more professional basis.

The exposure also helps break down barriers over the way people perceive those with disabilities, he says.

Two motorcyclists suffered serious injuries in separate crashes on Lincolnshire's roads at the weekend.

The first incident happened on the A1084 at Owmby at about 13:30 on Sunday when a motorbike and a van collided.

The second incident happened two hours later when a motorcyclist was involved in a collision with a black Ford Fiesta on the A1028 at Gunby Corner near Burgh le Marsh (pictured).

Both of the riders were taken to hospital.

A Lincolnshire woman who had over 2ft of hair cut off for the Cancer Research charity says she did it in the hope others wouldn't lose family members to the disease.

Stacey Drew, from Louth, lost her mum to the disease last year and says she wanted to do something in addition to taking part in the Louth Run For Life at the weekend.

British Steel's future hangs in the balance as the Official Receiver mulls over around 10 offers for all or part of the troubled business.

British Steel was placed in compulsory liquidation in May and closure could jeopardise 25,000 jobs, including 5,000 employed by the firm in Scunthorpe and 20,000 in the supply chain.

But the future might not be immediately clear, as it appears the Receiver may accept further potential offers beyond the Sunday deadline.

"I don't think we will be hearing anything in the first half of the week," says Gareth Stace, director general of trade body UK Steel.

"The Official Receiver has extended the deadline for further bids this week, that is what we understand. If there is a bit of a delay, I'd see that as a positive."

He added that Brexit was a "massive uncertainty" for the UK steel industry, with a no-deal exit leaving it facing potential tariffs of 25% for exports to the EU.

More than 250 people have been arrested in Lincoln and more than 7kg of the drug spice has been seized since a police team was set up to deal with the city's drug problem.

The unit was set up after complaints about people openly dealing and taking drugs in public places last summer.

The team will now be a permanent presence in Lincoln.

Police say they've taken the equivalent of 7,000 spice deals off the streets so far.

The first of 101 new trains are being used between Leeds and Doncaster.

This is part of a £500m fleet of new trains that will be introduced over the next year, they'll eventually help replace the old Pacer trains.

The Pacer trains could still be used next year though because of a design fault on the new fleet, the Sunday Times reported., external
