Villagers next to Belton House said visitors to a light show at the house drove up their driveways and knocked on doors to ask for directions.

One villager said people had barred a road with wheelie bins.

Owners National Trust said it was installing extra signs and possibly looking to create a unique satnav code.

The traffic chaos was so bad residents on one lane chose to barricade their street with wheelie bins to prevent further disruption caused by visitors to the country home, near Grantham.

Belton councillor Colin Thornton said: "Washdyke Lane is an unadopted single track lane that leads to a dead end. It was initially inundated with vehicles trying to turn around in a very small area or on private drives in the dark and in poor weather conditions to the extent that residents had to block the entrance to the lane with a wheelie bin with a sign stating "Not Belton House".

A spokesperson from the National Trust at Belton House said: "The postcode for the entrance to Belton House and its car park also covers an area of Belton village.

"Unfortunately a small number of visitors miss the entrance as they drive past. Working closely with the local authorities we have taken steps to mitigate this."

The leaders of Lincolnshire's county councils and the county council have signed a joint letter to the Health Secretary Matt Hancock criticising the "veil of secrecy" surrounding plans for the rollout of Covid vaccines.

The letter, by Martin Hill, leader of Lincolnshire County Council and chair of Lincolnshire Outbreak Engagement Board, was sent on behalf of all the county's council leaders.

It asks Mr Hancock to be more transparent about the vaccine rollout programme.

In the letter, Mr Hill says local government is "very keen" to support the NHS.

He adds: "However, this support is very much being constrained by national edicts which are apparently preventing local managers from sharing details of their local delivery plans with us.

"As you are well aware, there will be an understandable demand from the public to understand when and where they can expect their vaccinations.

"To attempt to cover the plans in a veil of secrecy makes no sense to them or us, and will only undermine confidence and patience locally," he adds.

A lists of the Covid-19 vaccination hubs across the Greater Lincolnshire Region has been published by the NHS.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service says the list covers both hospitals and local satellite vaccination centres including doctors’ surgeries, sports centres and village halls.

The Oxford/Astra Zeneca vaccine will arrive at hundreds of GPs across the country in order to make it easier to protect care home residents and other vulnerable people against the virus.
