  1. Police chief launches legal challenge to recruitment planspublished at 08:00 British Summer Time 11 July 2019

The Chief Constable of Lincolnshire Police is mounting a legal challenge against changes to the way new police officers will be recruited in the future.

    Bill Skelly

The National College of Policing wants to bring in a new policy meaning all recruits will have to have an academic degree or be prepared to study for one in work time.

Bill Skelly says it'll mean there are 40 fewer officers available in the county at any one time for front line policing to allow for extra study time.

Lincolnshire's Police and Crime Commissioner ,Marc Jones, has said he will back the challenge.

There's absolutely a need for people with degrees in the force and we should encourage people who want to gain a degree, but what we should not do is mandate that they have got to [have a degree]."
