They suspect people bought pets on a whim during lockdown and now realise they don't have time to look after them.

Volunteers at Three Counties Dog Rescue in Bourne are urging people to think twice before taking on a pet.

Gyll Mauchline, who runs the centre, said: "We can't say we're living in normal times, but because people are getting back into a routine of possibly going to work and going out and about more, then people who got pets during lockdown have decided they can't keep animals for one reason or another."

  10. Police to enforce Covid-19 rules 'as last resort'published at 12:14 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

Humberside Police will enforce the government's new Covid-19 rules - but only as a last resort, the body which represents officers in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire has said.

    Humberside Police

From today in England, shop workers will have to wear face coverings and pubs and restaurants must close by 22:00 every night as part of the new rules.

People should also work from home where possible, only 15 people will be allowed to attend a wedding and fines for not wearing masks are to increase to £200, restrictions state.

Pete Musgrave, from the Humberside Police Federation, which represents rank-and-file police officers, says his members will continue to use an "exchange and explain approach".

He said: "We'd obviously engage those people, explain what we're doing, and only as a last resort, if we're not getting the compliance we want from those people after we've done all those things, then potentially we'd look to doing the enforce side of it with the fixed penalty notice.

"I don't see us jumping straight into enforcement straight away," he added.

The assets, which also include public toilets, car parks, land and memorial gardens, are expected to be sold by East Lindsey District Council (ELDC) to three parish councils.

Alford and Burgh le Marsh Town Councils and Woodhall Spa Parish Council will receive over £28,000 in grants to help with the initial takeover of the East Lindsey District Council assets.

Council bosses say they would be “better managed at a local level” and their sale will help ELDC balance the items it owns “more closely aligned with the core objectives and strategic priorities” of the authority.

The transfer of assets will save just under £24,000 a year once the initial grants end, according to ELDC.

Council leaders will be asked to approve the plans, but they could also choose to remove individual assets from the agreements.

Red 1 Sqn Ldr Martin Pert says the events the team has taken part in this year have been significant:

    Quote Message

The big flypasts took on even more poignancy this year because of the lack of public displays. VE Day was a perfect example, we had cracking weather, we flew over London, but of course there was no-one on the ground at all. I think that's when it really hit home about how different 2020 has been."
