Animal charity deals with rise in unwanted lockdown petspublished at 09:37 British Summer Time 25 September 2020
Staff at an animal rescue centre in Lincolnshire say they've seen a rise in the number of cats and dogs they've taken in since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
They suspect people bought pets on a whim during lockdown and now realise they don't have time to look after them.
Volunteers at Three Counties Dog Rescue in Bourne are urging people to think twice before taking on a pet.
Gyll Mauchline, who runs the centre, said: "We can't say we're living in normal times, but because people are getting back into a routine of possibly going to work and going out and about more, then people who got pets during lockdown have decided they can't keep animals for one reason or another."
