Nearly 40 East Midlands Railway (EMR) services are being withdrawn or reduced, with the company blaming "a steep rise in Covid-related absences".

Bosses said the reduction was "designed to safely reduce the number of staff required to deliver its services".
Regional routes, such as Liverpool to Nottingham, Matlock to Newark Castle and Peterborough to Lincoln are most heavily hit, and some Nottingham to Leicester trains have also been cut.

He said the changes will remain under review.

There are long delays for drivers after a crash on the A1 between Grantham and Colsterworth.
It involves a lorry and a tractor.
The official diversion is via the A606 and A607 through Melton Mowbray.
Quote MessageWe would ask people to avoid the centre of Grantham if they can. With the bridge closure that was already in place in Grantham, that was a challenging situation as it was, but with traffic diverting through the centre of town it's gridlock at the moment."

A burglar has raided an antiques shop in Grantham after cutting through the ceiling and a door.
It's thought about £15,000 worth of jewellery was taken from Notions Antiques.
Owner Sharon Checkley says watching the CCTV footage of the raid was surreal:
Quote MessageWe've got roof lights upstairs, he cut through them. There was a dividing door into the main shop, he cut a square - like a cat flap - at ground level so he could avoid the sensors. We think it was a professional."

An un-bale-ievable incident in Market Rasen this morning saw a lorry carrying straw bales lose some of its load when it crashed in the railway bridge in Market Rasen, external.
At this time of year, lots of Lincolnshire residents get quite used to seeing the famous Red Arrows streaking through the skies of the county.
However, you won't be seeing them for the next couple of weeks as members of the RAF Scampton-based team take a break during their training season.
It seems, though, that the team's engineers aren't so lucky:

Lincolnshire's A&E departments are busier now than they were last year, it's been confirmed.
Last week alone 2,100 people turned up in the county's A&Es, and the trust which runs the hospital says staff are also dealing with an increase in coronavirus patients.
As a result, more beds are being set aside to help prepare for those numbers to go up, the trust says.
Andrew Morgan, in charge of United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust (ULHT) says although those with Covid-19 are treated separately, it still affects the whole hospital:
Quote MessageThe more wards we have to set aside, the more that impacts our emergency care. It impacts on A&E and the handover of ambulance patients."

Budding artists are being sought to spread festive cheer in some of Lincolnshire's market towns in the run-up to Christmas.
East Lindsey District Council is working on a project in Alford, Horncastle, Louth and Spilsby.
In early December, a projector will be placed in each town opposite a building which will act as an outdoor screen for a short film comprised of artwork designed by local residents.
Each town has a themed template, but residents can complete as many as they want before the deadline of 6 November.
The projections will run until New Year's Eve.
Quote MessageWe realise Christmas will be a bit different this year, and with traditional Christmas markets not taking place, we want to give our communities something they can really get behind and be a part of. Hope and Light will do just that, and I can’t wait to see our residents getting involved and helping bring some festive cheer to our towns."

County chiefs says they're optimistic for Lincolnshire’s economy as more than £158m of business grants have been handed out since the coronavirus pandemic began.
Lincolnshire County Council’s portfolio holder for economy Councillor Colin Davie has told committee members that the county's councils had handed out over 13,500 business grants up to 31 August.
On top of those, it is estimated the total value of job retention scheme claims - or furlough - in Lincolnshire was just over £300m.
However, Covid-19 restrictions have seen more than 95,600 people in the county on furlough, Councillor Davie said..
The furlough figures make up 29% of the eligible workforce - lower than the national average of 30%.
He added that just under 3% of the county’s businesses are now at risk of insolvency or bankruptcy.
He said: "Despite all the challenges we face, all the issues with Covid, I’m really optimistic we can get through this and the Lincolnshire economy will come out the other side, resilient, strong, and in better shape to face the future."
