    A new global hub for cancer research and treatment is to be established in London with the aim of accelerating the discovery of new treatments.

    Transport improvements are also planned for the London Cancer Hub in Sutton, ideally by a proposed £200m tram link.

    The hub plans to create more than 13,000 jobs and deliver at least two extra cancer drugs every five years.

    A poll commissioned by Shelter, external has found 86% of parents in London are worried the cost of housing will mean their children won't able to stay in the capital.

    The homelessness charity says unless affordable housing becomes available, an entire generation could end up being priced out of their home city

    Over 3,250 people were questioned for the survey, carried out by YouGov, external.

    Neil Berriman, the son of Sandra Rivett, who was found murdered in Lord Lucan's home, has been giving his reaction outside of the High Court after a judge ruled the missing aristocrat is now presumed to be dead.

    A CCTV image of a man the Met, external wish to speak to after an elderly man was robbed at gunpoint in Woolwich has been released.

    The victim, in his early 70s, was returning to his van with a substantial amount of money on 7 January when he was approached by a man with a handgun.

    The suspect made the pensioner drive for a while before stealing his money and running away.

    Police said the man with the gun is described as black, in his early 30s and of athletic build.

    About half of the capital's 22,500 licensed taxis currently accept cards but this will be made compulsory for all in the Autumn.

    Boris Johnson said the change would "make paying for your journey swifter and simpler than ever before".

    Steve McNamara of the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association (LTDA) said: “Every black cab taking cards is fantastic news for London. In future, when you hail a cab you can be sure that you can pay the way you like, card, contactless or cash.

    "That is without doubt better for our customers and for drivers who will benefit from extra work.”

    A couple from London have been compensated after they cancelled their holiday because of fears over the Zika virus.

    Kamil Rebacz and his pregnant fiancee Beata were due to fly to the Dominican Republic but decided not to go because they were worried about the virus.

    Travelers are being warned to seek advice from health professionals if they are going to an affected area.

    A few lucky Elton John fans will be treated to a rare appearance from the rocket man at 17:00 today when he attends a store signing at an Oxford Street record store, external.

    It's the first time he's done a store signing in the capital since 1973 although the 350 tickets have already sold out.

    The appearance is in support of his 33rd album, Wonderful Crazy Night.

    An investigation has started into the death of a prisoner who had previously been the victim of police brutality.

    Sarah Reed, 32, was found dead in her cell at Holloway Prison, north London, on 11 January.

    She was attacked in 2012 during a shop-lifting allegation by Met Police officer James Kiddie, who was subsequently found guilty of common assault.

    A detective who was accused of giving a misleading account of an interview with Andrew Mitchell at the height of the "plebgate" row has been cleared of misconduct.

    Det Sgt Stuart Hinton had praised the Tory MP for his "candour" at a meeting in 2012 before telling the BBC he had been evasive, a tribunal heard.

    However, the officer's barrister said hindsight had supported his view.

    Det Sgt Hinton has been cleared of breaching policing honesty standards.

    The decision by the RMT's executive to recommend its members accept a pay and conditions deal is a big step forward for the creation of the Night Tube.

    However, three other unions are still to decide whether they accept the offer.

    Train drivers' union Aslef is said to be looking like it will also accept but Unite, which represents engineering staff, has turned down the offer and wants further talks.

    The TSSA, which represents station staff, is yet to announce its decision.
