  1. Sadiq Khan rolls out his election posterspublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 4 May 2016

    BBC Radio London Political Reporter

Labour's Sadiq Khan rolled out his election posters today to mark the final day of campaigning in the London mayoral race.

He went back to Canary Wharf where he launched his manifesto. It's a place that plays into his promise to "create an environment where businesses can thrive" in London.

His series of billboard posters - which have travelled all over London in recent weeks - set out what Mr Khan sees as the key differences between him and his Conservative rival Zac Goldsmith - on everything from affordable homes, fares, community policing and support for the NHS.

A clear indication that he wants to focus on the issues rather than on Tory accusations that he's shared platforms with people with extreme views and the claims of anti-Semitism that have dogged the Labour Party.

He may be ahead in the polls but he seemed reluctant to celebrate too soon. The memories of last year's general election when Labour lost despite favourable polls are still etched into the minds of his campaign team.

Speaking to BBC Radio London he said "I'm not complacent" and urged people to go out and vote amid concerns about a low turnout tomorrow

His main rival Zac Goldsmith has said he would be better placed than Mr Khan to work with a Conservative government as Mayor of London. But Mr Khan dismissed that criticism.

He told me: "To give credit to this government they've worked with a Scottish government who is SNP. They work with a Welsh assembly who is Labour. They gave more powers to Greater Manchester who are Labour. When I was a transport minister in the Labour government I worked closely with mayors and politicians from all sides.

"No one wants to cut their nose off to spite their face. I'm looking forward to working with the government to ensure that we remain in the EU. I'll be a mayor for all Londoners and that includes Tory politicians who live in our great city."

    BBC Radio London Political Reporter

The Green Party candidate for mayor of London has criticised the "negativity" in the election campaign so far.

Sian Berry has been handing out leaflets in Hackney today.

She told BBC Radio London the "rows" between Conservative Zac Goldsmith and Labour's Sadiq Khan were putting off voters and had been "very distracting" from the policies being put forward by other candidates.

Sian Berry hading out leaflets in Hackney

She told me: "I've found the negativity very sad. We should have run the campaign as a group of candidates that was positive and about bringing Londoners together. In the last couple of weeks it's been very distracting.

"Great policy ideas I've been putting forward like setting up a bank for London to support small businesses barely had any attention because of the rows that have been going on.

"And I think it'll also put off voters. I really hope people do still turn out to vote in this election because it is really important.

"They shouldn't be put off by negative rows. It is about the issues that affect your daily lives."

She added she thought the Greens could make an impact in the London Assembly, where they'll be hoping to hang on to their two seats.

She said: "People are starting look beyond the two horse race and thinking about how they'll vote in the assembly elections."

  10. Sadiq Khan 'will keep distance from Jeremy Corbyn' if he winspublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 4 May 2016

    Nicholas Watt
    Political editor, BBC Newsnight

If Sadiq Khan wins the London mayoral contest he will probably throw a lifeline to Jeremy Corbyn.

The Labour leader, who appears likely to suffer setbacks elsewhere in Britain, will be able to say that his party has recaptured one of the biggest prizes in British politics.

But if Khan wins he is planning to mark his victory, at least in the immediate aftermath, without Corbyn by his side.

His decision to keep his distance, at least in the first few days after any victory, shows the widespread unease in the party about the Labour leader.
