  1. Ellie Butler's granddad calls for public inquiry into six-year-old's deathpublished at 08:56 British Summer Time 22 June 2016

    The grandfather of murdered six-year-old Ellie Butler has called for a public inquiry into why she was returned to the care of her parents Ben Butler and Jennie Gray.

    Neal Gray told BBC Radio 4: "I want it all open above board and I want everybody to answer. Everybody failed Ellie, completely and utterly."

    Ellie was placed in the custody of her mother's parents in 2009 after Butler was convicted for shaking Ellie as a baby, but the conviction was later quashed on appeal and the couple then won a High Court judgement to have Ellie returned to their care in 2012.

    Ellie died went back to her parents 11 months before her death at the family home in Sutton in October 2013.

    Yesterday Butler, 36, was convicted of her murder and jailed for a minimum of 23 years, while Ellie's mother admitted a child cruelty charge and jailed for 42 months. 

  2. Croydon burglary victim 'threatened' over wanted dead or alive posterpublished at 08:46 British Summer Time 22 June 2016

    A burglary victim says he has been threatened with arrest after he put up a wanted banner on the side of his house to try and find the thief.

    Builder Sebastian Stephenson, 34 from Croydon, hung the poster which said "Wanted: Dead or Alive" alongside a CCTV photograph of the alleged thief.

    The police told him he had to change it as it was inciting public disorder.

    The Met said Mr Stephenson had not been arrested and that the investigation into the theft continues.

  3. Overcrowded Tube station incidents rise 3% in a yearpublished at 08:34 British Summer Time 22 June 2016

    The number of times passengers were stopped from entering London Underground stations because of overcrowding rose 3% in a year.

    Transport for London (TfL) said there were 547 "temporary station controls" - where commuters are prevented from entering - from March 2015 to February this year.

    That compares to 531 during the previous year.

    More than a fifth occurred at Oxford Circus, with 219 in the past two years.

  5. Travel update: Accident, fire and burst water main causing delayspublished at 08:08 British Summer Time 22 June 2016

    One lane is closed and there is slow traffic on M11 southbound between J7, A414 (Harlow) and J6 M25, because of an accident involving a car and a lorry.

    The A309 Hampton Court Way in Thames Ditton is closed and there is queuing traffic in both directions around the B364 Embercourt Road junction, because of a serious accident involving a car and a motorcycle. Congestion is stretching to Scilly Isles, Esher.

    One lane is closed on the A2 westbound at Darenth Interchange, because of a broken down vehicle on the roundabout.

    The B243 Morland Road in Addiscombe is blocked between the A222 Lower Addiscombe Road junction and the Blackhorse Lane junction, because of a building fire. A diversion is in operation for bus route 197. 

    Grosvenor Square in Mayfair is closed eastbound at the Upper Brook Street junction, because of a burst water main. It is also affecting North Audley Street from Green Street to Grosvenor Square.
