    Patients in the most deprived areas of England face poorer levels of care due to an over-reliance on locum GPs, the British Medical Association has warned.

    Barking and Dagenham borough was among the five most deprived areas in the survey.

    Data analysis by BBC News found in some parts of the country 18% of the GP workforce was made up of locums compared to a national average of 3.4%.

    NHS England said it planned to recruit an extra 5,000 doctors to work in general practice by 2020.

    London's LGBT community is organising a vigil in Soho tonight to show solidarity with the people of Orlando following yesterday morning's gun attack on a gay nightclub.

    It will take place at 19:00 in Old Compton Street where fifty balloons will be released, one for each of the victims.

  6. 'Smouldering cables' still causing delays to Great Northern servicespublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    The fire brigade says the disruption to trains on the Finsbury Park to Moorgate line this morning is down to smouldering cables in a tunnel.

    Thirty firefighters have been on the scene at Old Street all morning and Great Northern services still aren't running into or out of Moorgate.  

    They are not expected to start running again until 14:00.

    An inquest into the death of a teenager who died in a moped crash while being chased by police opens later.

    Henry Hicks, 18, was riding in Islington on 19 December 2014, when police officers in two unmarked cars began to follow him.

    He collided with a car driven by a member of the public and veered into the path of an oncoming vehicle and was later pronounced dead in hospital. 

    The inquest is being held at St Pancras Coroner's Court.

    Adverts promoting unrealistic body images will be banned across the TfL network from next month, the Mayor of London has said.

    From next month, TfL will not allow ads which could reasonably be seen as likely to cause pressure to conform to an unrealistic or unhealthy body shape, or as likely to create body confidence issues.

    Sadiq Khan pledged to look at advertising during his election campaign. 

    He said: “As the father of two teenage girls, I am extremely concerned about this kind of advertising which can demean people, particularly women, and make them ashamed of their bodies. It is high time it came to an end."

    There are concerns a "copycat" style terror attack could happen in LGBT venues in the UK.

    The owner of two G-A-Y venues in London tells Newsbeat there is "always a constant threat" because of attacks abroad.

    It's after 50 people died in a shooting in a gay club in Orlando, Florida.

    Jeremy Joseph said: "There's a concern now that there's going to be a copycat person who's going to attempt this here.

    "What they're trying to do is create as much devastation as possible and take as many lives as possible."

    After November's Paris attacks, posters were put up in the Manchester and London venues raising awareness of the threat level.

    Londoner Cynthia Erivo was among the winners at last night's Tony Awards in New York.

    She was named best actress in a musical for her leading role in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple.

    Fighting back tears on stage, Erivo, from Stockwell, south London, said she had "promised myself I wouldn't cry because my make-up artist would be really mad at me".

    The hip-hop musical Hamilton dominated at the ceremony, which was presented by comedian turned US chat show host James Corden.
