  3. Khan unveils smart city plan for Londonpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

    London Mayor Sadiq Khan has outlined plans to make the capital the "world's leading smart city" as he launched London Technology Week.

    He unveiled a new £1.6m clean technology incubator called Better Futures that will help 100 London businesses deliver technology to battle pollution and climate change.

    A new tech innovation centre - Plexal - was also opened in east London, which Mr Khan said would support up to 800 start-ups and other businesses, as part of plans to entice firms to the city.

    London Technology Week, first organised in 2014, is a festival of events across the city celebrating the technology industry.

    The week of events include coding workshops and drone racing from the professional Drone Racing League (DRL).

    The mayor also confirmed plans to appoint a chief digital officer, who will work with local authorities and technology businesses on policy for the industry.

    A programme to develop new technology to improve the lives of those living with disabilities was also announced.

    He was invited for the state visit by the Queen.

    Mr Trump was criticised after attacking London Mayor Sadiq Khan over his response to the recent terror attacks.

  17. Hung parliament sinks business confidence, IoD findspublished at 09:01 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

    The uncertainty caused by the general election has led business confidence to sink "through the floor", according to a lobby group.

    A snap poll of 700 members of the London-based Institute of Directors found a "dramatic drop" in confidence following the hung parliament.

    Members saw no clear way to resolve the political impasse quickly, the IoD said.

    However, it found there was "no desire" for another election this year.

    Another man has been arrested in connection with the terror attack on London Bridge, bringing the total number of arrests to 21.

    The 19-year-old was detained in Barking after counter-terror police carried out a warrant at an address.

    Police said six other suspects remain in custody and searches are ongoing.

    A total of eight people were killed on 3 June when three attackers drove into pedestrians on the bridge and stabbed people in nearby Borough Market.

    A points problem at London Waterloo means trains to and from the station are being disrupted with cancellations and delays expected until the end of the day.

    There are minor delays on London Tramlink between Wimbledon and New Addington due to an earlier faulty tram at Therapia Lane.
