    Police officers clubbed together to buy toys and games for a young boy they found alone in "tragic circumstances".

    The boy, 11, was found alone in a home in Hackney on 6 February after police responded to a call raising concern.

    Wanting to bring a smile to the boy's face and let him know they were thinking of him officers donated £1,000 to buy him a bike, clothes, toys, games and books. The boy has since been placed in a new home.

    After finding out he was an Arsenal fan they contacted the club who also donated a replica training kit and clothing.

    He was surprised with the gifts during a visit to Stoke Newington Police Station on 18 March.

    Insp Gareth Wiles, said: "I am incredibly proud of my team. As response officers, we face a great many dangers every day - but this example demonstrates just how much we care and go above and beyond for the most vulnerable people out there too. I hope the actions of the team will go some way to giving this child some comfort at what is a very dark time for him."
