    The mayor has also announced plans to continue to pay for 1,000 police officers whose funding was at risk due to the effect of the pandemic.

    The officers, which have been in place for the last three years, had been paid for from business rates however that income has fallen sharply due to social distancing measures put in place on businesses to help drive the Covid-19 infection rate down.

    Sadiq Khan has now announced that the £30m needed to fund them for another four years will come from a 9.5% rise in council tax.

    A teenager is fighting for his life after being stabbed with a crossbow bolt.

    The 18-year-old was found seriously injured on a bench in Abbey Wood station in south-east London at 22:20 yesterday.

    British Transport Police (BTP) said the teenagers condition "is believed to be life-threatening".

    Detectives believe he sustained his injuries from a crossbow bolt in a "shocking act of violence".

    No arrests have been made, BTP said.
