Met Police donates unclaimed bikes to NHS workerspublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 29 April 2021
The Metropolitan Police has donated 100 stolen bicycles, which it had kept in storage after no one claimed them, to NHS staff.
The Met said some of the bikes had been in storage for years and that they would otherwise have been left unused and eventually scrapped.
The force teamed up with bicycle charity Pro Bike Service CIC which serviced and repaired all of the bicycles for free.
The bikes were given to NHS staff members in the Barts Health NHS Trust at an event at held at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park earlier this week.
A further event to donate unclaimed stolen bikes is planned for October.
However, bike owners are urged to register their bicycles online and follow a range of prevention measures, external to better enable them to be reunited with their vehicles in case of theft.
